It had been two months of their vacation in the Maldives, and life was running smoothly with their daily routine. Today was Dawood's Mehndi event, which was going to be held at the wedding hall. Alizey's aunt (phupho) was staying at their house as her in-laws insisted.

For tonight's event, Alizey wore a baby pink lehenga with a sky blue shirt adorned with tilla work and motifs, paired with a net dupatta featuring pink and blue borders. Being accustomed to doing her own makeup, she opted for a light and contrasting look. She styled her hair with a center parting, wearing a maang tikka and heavy earrings. Her hands were adorned with glass bangles, and she had applied simple henna designs.

As she finished getting ready, she checked her phone and sighed as there was no response to her messages from Jahan. It had been two days since they last talked, and she didn't even know if he would be attending the event.

Descending the stairs, she checked the gifts they had to take with them.

"Mashallah, mere beti boht pyari lag rahi hai," her grandmother praised, admiring her appearance.
(My daughter looks very beautiful)

Just as they were about to leave the house, Jahan entered. He was wearing a black shirt with rolled-up sleeves, the top two buttons undone, his hair slightly messy, and his eyes tired and red from lack of sleep.

"Shukar, Jahan is here," his mother exclaimed, catching everyone's attention. He greeted everyone.

"Lizey, we're getting late. You both come together, but don't be late," his mother said, and Alizey nodded.

Once they reached their room, Jahan hugged Alizey, taking in her fragrance, feeling as if all his tiredness vanished in an instant.

"Itne haseen lagoge toh main tumhe kaise jaane doon itne logon ke beech," he said, kissing the side of her head.

(If you look this beautiful, how can I let you go in the midst of so many people)

"Haan, der ho rahe hai," she blushed, gently pushing him towards the closet.
(Yes, we're getting late)

She handed him an outfit, instructing him to get ready quickly. Ten minutes later, Jahan emerged dressed in a black shalwar kameez. He styled his hair with gel, while she handed him moisturizer to apply. Putting on his shoes, Alizey draped a skin shawl over his shoulders. They smiled at their reflection in the mirror. Jahan took out a few notes from his wallet and circled them above her head.

Sitting in the car, Alizey observed Jahan giving money to a guard. She smiled, feeling blessed to have him as her husband.

As they arrived at the venue, everyone was waiting outside for them so they could make their entry together.

"Ahhh, Alizey, you look so beautiful!" Faiqa exclaimed, jumping up and down with excitement. Alizey stumbled, but Jahan quickly placed his hand on her back to steady her.

She apologetically glanced at them but swiftly changed the topic.

"You both look beautiful too, mashallah," she smiled at Faiqa and Hooriya. They exchanged greetings with everyone. The girls then took their positions at the front, holding henna plates.

To the beats of the dhol, they all made their grand entrance. The elders walked under the dupatta with Dawood, while Alizey and some other cousins held the edges of the dupatta. Arham, Zain, and the other boys performed bhangra. Jahan was with his father and the other men at the end.

As they entered the hall, the music started playing, and Alizey couldn't resist moving her hands to the rhythm. Jahan smiled as he watched her.

The function continued with rituals, dancing, and singing, just like any traditional Mehndi event.

Upon returning home, they changed into their nightclothes. When Alizey came out of the closet, she saw Jahan heading towards the study, carrying his laptop.

"You should rest; I have some work to do," he said, returning from the door to kiss her forehead before going back to his study. She nodded. Exhausted, she rested her head on the pillow and drifted off into dreamland.

The next morning, Alizey woke up to find her side of the bed empty. She checked her phone and saw that Jahan had already sent her a message, informing her about his urgent meeting. She felt worried for him as he had been extremely busy lately and spent very little time at home. They only managed to talk every two to three days. Alizey understood the demands of his job, but as his wife, she was concerned about his health as well.

After completing her morning chores, Alizey went downstairs. The Nikkah ceremony was scheduled for the afternoon. She had breakfast, finished her pending assignment, and submitted it.

Taking a refreshing hot bath, she dressed in the outfit chosen for the ceremony. She wore a skin-colored shirt with intricate taar work, paired with purple-pink trousers adorned with embroidery.

For her makeup, she opted for a nude brownish look. She let her hair down, curling them elegantly. As for jewelry, she wore long earrings and pumps for heels.

First, they went to her aunt's house for the shera bandi ritual, and from there, they took the Barat.

Although Alizey was enjoying the event, her heart and mind were preoccupied with thoughts of Jahan, who was absent from the gathering. It was their first major family event after their wedding, and many people were eager to meet her. She needed him by her side during such moments. Being in the presence of so many people made her uncomfortable, and she knew Jahan felt the same way. She remembered their first day together after the wedding.

As Alizey was crossing the hallway from the washroom, someone suddenly pushed her, causing her to let out a shriek in surprise.

"Shh... Janum, it's me," Jahan whispered, embracing her tightly.

"Haan," she replied, feeling relieved, and hugged him back. They stood there silently, holding each other for a few minutes.

"Someone might see us," she whispered, expressing her concern. Jahan nodded in agreement. Breaking the embrace, he planted a gentle kiss on her forehead. Suddenly, they heard a voice saying, "Oops, sorry! Sorry, we didn't see anything."

They turned their heads and saw Faiqa and Hooriya standing nearby, wearing mischievous smiles. Alizey felt embarrassed and shy, quickly hiding behind Jahan. The two girls continued teasing them with their playful expressions. Jahan simply shrugged his shoulders and took Alizey's hand, leading her away.

During dinner with the family, Faiqa and Hooriya kept giving Alizey teasing smiles and making playful comments.

Later, as they settled into bed for the night, Alizey called out to Jahan.

"Hmm?" he responded, still engrossed with his phone.

"Is there any problem related to your work?" she asked, sitting cross-legged.

"Don't worry, everything is fine," he assured her, looking into her eyes and gently squeezing her hand. Setting his phone aside, he switched off the lights and held her in his arms.
