We drove into town and made our way down Main Street. I grew up here but it never ceased to amaze me how beautiful it looked at night. They kept twinkle lights up in the trees around the square all year long, giving the town a story book quality. there were people walking down the sidewalks, enjoying the unseasonably warm night.

He stopped the truck in front of this little Italian bistro that was a local favorite. "Oh! I love this place." I told him, a smile spreading across my face.

"I do too." He got out and came over to my side, opening my door and offering me a hand to help me out of the cab. We walked inside and Steve gave his name to the hostess behind the counter. She led us to a small room off towards the back. Placing our menus on the table, she informed us our server would be with us shortly and left. Steve pulled my chair out for me and pushed it in before sitting down himself.

I couldn't help but smile at him. I'd never been treated like this before. Not that Nick wasn't a gentleman but this sort of chivalry was dead to most modern men. But then again, Steve wasn't completely a modern man. I looked over the menu before deciding on the chicken parmesan. Our server came in and got our drink order, with Steve ordering a bottle of wine for us. It was nice, being wined and dined. He was super sweet too. Every now and then I would catch him looking at me and I'd smile when he'd quickly look away.

"So what looks good to you?" he asked, still looking at his menu.

"I was thinking about getting the chicken parmesan."

"That sounds good."

"If memory serves me correctly, it is. It's been a while since I've been here though."

"You grew up here, right?"

"Yeah. I actually worked here in high school. And at the bookstore two shops down."

"Has it changed much?"

"Absolutely not. I don't think it will ever change. In some ways it's like this town is stuck in a snow globe, perfectly preserved but never changing. It's one of the reasons I was so excited to move to the city."

"But something drew you back to it, clearly."

"Yeah. After losing Nick I realized that maybe my parents were on to something, raising me out here. I couldn't deny my daughter the same adventurous upbringing I had. What about you? I know you're from Brooklyn. Did you always want to live there?"

"I guess I'm kind of the opposite. Spent my whole life, or what I got to live of it anyway, in or near the city. When Tony decided after Sokovia to build a center upstate, I jumped at the chance to see something new. I liked it so much that I found a town close by and bought some land."

"You own land here?"

"Yep. Eventually I'll build on it but I'm content with where I am for now."
