*Steve's POV*
It was August and Story had just entered into her sixth month. This pregnancy was going quickly although Story would disagree with me. She claimed she was huge and others seemed to be agreeing with her. It got to the point where she had asked if there was any chance there was twins in there but the OBGYN laughed as she assured us it was just one healthy baby boy. I was out to lunch with Sam and Bucky since this was the first time we had all been in the same place since the gender reveal. "So how's the pregnancy going?" Bucky asks after we've ordered.
"Now that we're talking again, she's taking full advantage of it."
"What does that mean?" Sam asked.
"Whenever she's craving something she texts me; no matter what time of day it is. She says it's retribution for the morning sickness she suffered through this time that I wasn't present for."
"So are we going to talk about the elephant in the room or are you going to keep avoiding it?" I could kick Sam. Instead I attempted to be ignorant.
"And what elephant would that be?"
"Sharon." Bucky and Sam said at the same time.
"I told her that I needed to be a hundred percent focused on this pregnancy, that I had been given a second chance both for a family and with Story. She wasn't happy. She destroyed some things on the way out and then left."
"Man I told you she was crazy." Sam said, having let out a heavy sigh.
"No you didn't." Bucky said, calling him out.
"Yes I did."
Before things could get too heated between them I decided to interrupt. "Can we not argue about this?"
"Sorry." They both say, looking down like two children who had just been scolded.
"Have you told Story that Sharon is gone?" Sam asked, attempting to change the subject.
"No. I don't want her to read too much into it. I didn't do this to get back with her. Sharon wasn't going to be satisfied with just friendship."
"But you kind of did do it for Story..." Bucky pointed out.
"I did it because I owe it to my son to be completely devoted to him. If a side benefit is that it works on getting me back in her good graces then so be it." Steve said before leaving.
"She's going to squash him like a bug." Sam said to Bucky, shaking his head.
"Yup."

*Story's POV*August had turned to September and fall had settled over upstate New York. I was in my seventh month and I swear I was huge. If I had known that carrying the offspring of a super soldier was going to make me blow up like a house, I never would've looked twice at Steve. I was miserable. Lucy and Steve swore that my feet were still there but I hadn't seen them in weeks. He was very active, constantly bouncing on my bladder and keeping me up at all hours of the night. Steve was mesmerized any time that he felt our son move but I was easily getting over it. This summer had been a hot one and I hated every moment I had to spend it pregnant.
We were currently sitting in one of the extra bedrooms at my house that we were transforming into the nursery. Steve was putting together the crib and I was busy folding onesies that we had gotten already. I looked over at him and he genuinely looked happy. "So how's Sharon?" I asked. He sighed, before giving me a look. When would I learn to keep my big mouth shut?
"Ok, I guess."
"What does that mean, you guess?"
"I haven't actually seen Sharon since before that first ultrasound appointment."
"Why?" I shouldn't press the issue but I was actually curious.
"We didn't exactly see eye to eye about the baby."
"Oh. I'm sorry." I didn't really know what else to say.
"No you're not." I forgot how well he could read me.
"You're right, I'm not. You can't really blame me for my feelings though, especially since it's the reason we're not still together. But why didn't you tell me?"
"I didn't want you to read anything into it."
"What do you mean by that?"
"Just that I didn't want you to think I did it to get back with you. My priority is our baby." That surprised me and it took me a couple minutes to wrap my head around that and come up with a response.
"Ok. Well that's good." Not that she'd ever admit it but in that moment, Steve started to chip away at the wall she had built back up.
