Magnus just stood there as Alec walked out of their apartment. As much as he had loathed Robert in the beginning because of how he had treated Alec, Magnus wouldn't wish abduction on anybody. Especially not after it happened to him. When he finally felt like he could move he ran to their bedroom to get dressed.

He couldn't, scratch that, he wouldn't let Alec deal with this alone. Magnus decided on all black, no makeup or anything that would draw attention to him when all attention needed to be focused on finding the missing shadowhunters. Even though, he thought, that his plain attire would draw attention anyway. He was still Magnus Bane after all.

He decided to portal to the Institute instead of walking, it would be a lot faster. He went to a wall, and started the spell. A blue vortex took the place of the wall and Magnus jumped through.

Before he knew it, Magnus was stepping onto the front steps of the Institute. When he headed towards the front door he heard footsteps behind him. Turning around he saw a frantic Alec. Alec looked up at him and a small smile appeared on his lips.

Alec walked up the steps towards Magnus and grabbed his hand, Magnus squeezed it in reassurance.

"We'll find him. I promise." Alec's smile widened and they walked inside. As they made their way to the library Magnus couldn't help hearing a voice in the back of his head.

Don't make promises you can't keep. His smile faltered.

When Alec and Magnus walked into the library all heads turned their way, but only a few turned back to their previous conversation. The library was full of people. A bunch of shadowhunters, whom neither Alec nor Magnus recognized, Jace, Clary, Isabelle, Simon, and Maryse. Even Jocelyn and Luke were there.

Magnus could catch a few snips of the conversation here and there, but he couldn't stay focused on what was happening. His mind kept going back to those six words, don't make promises you can't keep. They would find Robert, he knew it. The alternative wasn't something he took pleasure in thinking about.

Before he knew it everyone was turning to leave the library. Magnus cursed himself for spacing out on everyone. This was Alec's father for God sakes! When he turned towards Alec he could see how he was holding back his tears. Anyone else would bat an eyelash at Alec's face, but Magnus could see it all.

He could see the pain, and it killed him. Alec gave him a small smile, but it didn't reach his eyes.

"Would you mind if we slept here for tonight?" Alec asked. Magnus gave him a small smile.

"Of course darling." he said, grabbing his hand and letting Alec lead them to his old room. Once there Magnus closed the door as Alec threw off his shoes and coat, throwing himself onto the bed. Magnus also took off his coat and shoes.

He crawled onto the bed and enveloped Alexander into a tight hug. As soon as he felt Magnus' arms around him Alec let it all go. Alec cried into his lover's chest, not caring if anyone who passed by the room heard him.

"We need to find him Mags." Alec cried, his voice breaking. Magnus rubbed soothing circles along Alec's back and kissed the top of his head.

"I know baby. And trust me, we will. I promise you." Alec and Magnus lay there, Alec being comforted by Magnus' loving embrace. When Alec finally fell asleep Magnus was still, however, wide awake.

Don't make promises you can't keep.

He whispered into the air, "We will find him Alec. I will do everything in my power to make sure that we find him."
