Magnus' jaw would have been touching the floor right now if that was possible.

"Hello Robert." he said, not trying to hide the distaste in his voice. Robert looked slightly uncomfortable but held Magnus' gaze.

"Mr. Bane. I would like to speak to you and my son. May I come in?" Robert stated, keeping his voice calm and collected.

Magnus contemplated his request for a minute until he heard Alec's voice, "Let him in." Robert looked shocked at first but then he quickly recovered. Magnus moved aside and let the man in.

"What do you want?" Alec asked.

"I want my son back. I also want to apologize for my outburst at the dinner table, it was uncalled for." Alec was surprised, the last thing he had expected was for his father to come here and apologize. He also knew that this was a big deal, his father apologizing.

"Do you expect me to just forgive you? Act like nothing happened?" Alec asked.

Robert sighed, "No I do not. But I do hope that in time you will forgive me. I am going back to Alicante, I am needed there and I didn't want to leave without saying a proper goodbye. I also didn't want to leave with this gap between us. I do love you Alexander, and I will admit that you did not end up how I had imagined but I do love you and I am proud of you."

Robert then turned towards the door, "I'm leaving tomorrow, I hope that you come see me before I go. But if you don't, goodbye son."

When Robert left Alec and Magnus were surprised, beyond surprised. Alec was frozen in his spot.

When they were settling into their bed later that night Alec snuggled up to Magnus. Magnus in turn puts his arm around Alec's waist.

"So what did you think about your father coming here today?" Magnus asked, knowing that Alec wouldn't bring it up.

Alec sighed, "Mags, I'm not really in the mood to talk about my dad. I would like to just lay here and go to sleep."  Alec knew that he had to decide whether or not to forgive his father and the fact that he was leaving tomorrow really wasn't helping his thought process. This was a highly weighed decision. Its not like he would never ever go to Alicante again, but it was unlikely that it would be any time soon.

He didn't want to regret his decision, but he also didn't want to make a decision right now. He just wanted to be taken hostage by his dreams.

Magnus knew that Alec probably wouldn't talk about it now or anytime soon, at least not willingly. He knew that this was a big decision and he didn't want Alec to regret it. He decided that before he went to sleep that he would at least try to push his darling shadowhunter in the right direction.

"My darling Alexander, I have been alive for longer than I would care to admit, but through that time I have witnessed and learned a lot of things. One of the most useful things that I have learned is that forgiveness is a chore. But, it is a chore that is worth doing.

People make the mistake of believing that forgiveness is for the person that you are forgiving, but it's not. When you forgive someone you are doing it for you. Because if you don't then they will have power over you, even if you don't know it. Now I'm not telling you to forgive your father and I am also not telling you to not forgive him, but just think about this. I don't want you to regret this later." And with that Magnus kissed the top of Alec's head.

Alec listened to Magnus' whole speech, and he had to admit, it was pretty compelling. When Magnus kissed his head and started to drift off to sleep he decided to try and get some sleep of his own. It really had been a long day. But sadly, sleep wouldn't come. It was like his mind wasn't going to let him sleep until he made his decision.

So Alec sat there, thinking about each and every outcome possible. If him and Magnus were to get married one day, he would want his father there. If they adopted a baby, he would want his father there. When his father was on his death bed, he would want to be there and vice versa.

In that moment Alec had made his decision and he knew that he wouldn't regret it. He needed his father, but at the same time he didn't.

NEXT DAY

When Alec woke he soon realized that he wasn't snuggled up to a hard body. He turned to see that Magnus was nowhere in sight. Before he could start calling out his name or checking the apartment for him, he saw a note.

Dear Alexander,

I have an early appointment with a client today. I might get home late so don't worry. And go see your father.
Love Always, Magnus

The letter brought a smile to Alec's face. Even though he had made the decision to go see his dad already it still meant a lot that Magnus supported him. Knowing Magnus he probably already knew that Alec was going to go see his father, he just wanted to wait until Alec knew as well. Checking the time, Alec ran to get dressed.

After his shower he threw on a black shirt and black jeans, running out of the apartment. He had to come back at least two minutes later, realizing that he had forgotten his shoes. He didn't stop to get a cab, he just ran, ran, and ran some more. He didn't stop to even catch a breath, he didn't want to miss his father leaving.

When he finally arrived at the Institute his dad was just about to walk through the portal.

"Dad! Wait!" he screamed. Robert whirled around, surprise covering his face hearing Alec's voice.

"Alec?" he gasped. Alec smiled and ran towards his dad, and engulfed him in a hug. Robert stiffened, but once he recovered he returned the hug. Needless to say, everyone around them had their jaws on the floor. When Robert pulled away he patted Alec on the shoulder.

"I didn't think you were going to show."

"I didn't either, but Magnus talked some sense into me." The fact that his dad didn't flinch like he usually did upon hearing Magnus' name meant that he had made the right choice.

"I'm glad he did. I'm going to miss you my son." Alec was stunned, he didn't know what to say. So he smiled and nodded. He then watched as Robert walked into the portal. Another smile found its way on Alec's face. He and his father were now on good terms, and that meant a lot to him. When he turned towards his family he almost laughed at the site, he had a lot of explaining to do.
