"So what's this Rave everyone is talking about at school?" Marina asks Allison. She reads through the bestiary pages Lydia translated for them. She's trying to familiarize herself with knowledge about the Kanima.
Allison shrugs, "I think it's a dance. It's hard to get into apparently because the lines are super long. And it's expensive." Allison says, "It's this Friday."
"You tried getting tickets?"
She shakes her head, "Matt mentioned it before the fight happened. I just don't remember what he said but I'm pretty sure I agreed to go on a date with him."
"Matt asked you on a date?" Marina sits up on Allison's bed. Allison nods from her desk, "I'll just pretend I forgot or something."
"Or you can go on the date."
"You are aware I'm dating Scott, right?"
Marina chuckles, "Yes, I'm aware. But you told me your mom is suspicious, right?" Allison nods, remembering the conversation Scott shared with her in the library.
"Then go on the date with Matt. They'll forget about you and Scott." Marina shrugs, flipping the page over.
"Maybe. But won't it be disrespectful to Scott?"
"Talk to him, maybe he'll agree with what I'm saying."
"If I have to go with Matt, you have to go with Isaac." Allison smiles at her friend. Marina feels her cheeks begin to heat up.
"He hasn't even asked me yet." Marina keeps her eyes on the pages, trying her best to hide her red cheeks.
"So you'd go with him if he asked."
"Look," Marina stands up from Allison's bed, "We're not talking about me, we're talking about you and your parents being this close to finding out about your relationship." Marina motions with her fingers. Allison playfully rolls her eyes.
Marina looks at the time on her phone. She sighs, knowing she has to leave now. "Okay, think about what I said." Marina says. She grabs her backpack from beside Allison's feet, "I have to go now. My mom thinks I'm at debate practice."
Allison's eyebrows furrowed together, "We don't have a debate team."
"I know. But I had to come up with an excuse on why I had to stay late after school today."
Marina was glad her mom bought that lie. When she got a call from the school to let her know her daughter had detention, she waited for her to get home to discipline her. She is now grounded for a month instead of a week. Saying her goodbyes to Allison, Marina drives home.

It's Friday morning and the girls are walking to their lockers. Allison still doesn't know if she should go with Matt to the rave tonight and Marina keeps telling her to talk to Scott. The bell rings in the hallway.
"So, Lydia is out today?" Marina asks the girl next to her.
Allison nods, "She's not feeling well."
Allison opens her locker and pulls out her textbook for her first class. Marina looks down the hall at Allison's mom, who smiles at her before rounding the corner. Marina feels the uneasy feeling in her stomach begin to bubble.
"Have you asked Scott about me?"
"What?" Allison chuckles. Marina sighs, "Have you asked him what he thinks I am? You said you would." Marina doesn't know what she is and it bothers her. She's not a werewolf or a kanima, so what could she be?
"I couldn't." She sighs and closes her locker door, "If my parents catch us -"
"I know." Marina rubs her forehead, "I'll ask him myself, okay?" Allison nods and the girls hurriedly walk by the boys locker room to head to their shared class, not wanting to be late.
