Jimin directly reached office early the next day with Yoongi and Hoseok. He was a bit embarrassed when Hobi had shown up at the apartment in the morning, he had totally forgotten Hobi wasn't there all night. But his kind hyung hugged him in the middle of his babble of an apology saying "Hey! It's okay Jimin-ah, some days we are less awesome and it's all right." The couple made him feel all warm and said that he would be welcome anytime he'd want to visit them again. He felt really privileged to have such great friends. Speaking of friends, he was not ready to face his one and only best one.
Jimin reached his office desk, and saw Taehyung missing on his seat. He didn't know he was holding a breath there until he exhaled on seeing no one around. He relaxed on his seat only to jump in the next second when someone spoke from behind.
"Relieved that I'm not here? Should I've not come today?"
Jimin turned to look at Taehyung and found him beaming at him like nothing's wrong, like he didn't say those words yesterday, like it never happened.
Jimin scoffed lightly.
"What side of the bed did you wake up on that's making you smile like that, Tae?"
"The same one", Taehyung chuckled as he sat. "I'm just glad to see you Jimin-ah. I have missed you. You didn't show up at work yesterday. You didn't even show up for breakfast!"
"I was at Yoongi's" Jimin didn't look at Taehyung as he started checking up on his work.
"That's nice!"
"Nice that I was not at Jungkook's?" Jimin asked and looked back at him suddenly.
But Taehyung didn't budge his smile.
"No, I am just glad you were at someone's place rather than unsafe on the road. You look clearly hungover and I don't want to know that you drank at a bar all night with no one around."
"Mhmm"
Jimin took a moment to think. Huh?
"Do you think I would drink and cry on the road just because finally my feelings are reciprocated?"
Taehyung sighed as he closed his eyes. He looked around glad it was still early and there was no one nearby.
"Jimin-ah, no, we are not going down that road. Stop finding ways to feed your insecurities. I-I-"
"No, you stop saying anything around that! You had absolutely no business saying those words to me. YOU-" This time Jimin looked around to see if they had any audience.
He could hear some footsteps at a distance. He whisper-shouted. "You gave me shit for so many weeks only to reveal the real reason why you were being weird to me. And here I was feeling guilty every single day that I am a bad friend. And then you say those words. After so many years, Tae! Do you know how long it took me to-" And Jimin gulped. No. He cannot shed a tear at his workplace. People already know all his other emotions way too well. Last thing he wants is to cry and have nothing left private ih his life.
Taehyung could already read how Jimin was trying to stop from crying.
"Jimin? Hey.."
"NO." Jimin said as he shifted a bit away from Taehyung. "No Tae, we are done talking about this. You are leaving in what, three-four weeks? Let's not ruin a good thing we had. Let's just eat, plan your farewell and pack your stuff, yeah?"
And Taehyung who once was leaning towards Jimin to hold his friend's hand to stop him from breaking down, leaned back and looked a bit hurt. But then he recovered.
"Okay Jimin-ah."
And then they both faced their screens and started working.
Jimin didn't say anything else to anyone else for the next few hours. He clearly had a lot of work to do. He didn't plan his leave the day before and he had to handle everything he missed out on. Surprisingly Jungkook didn't come out from his cabin all day. It seemed like he was busy as well, much to Jimin's relief. He wasn't ready for Jungkook either. But then he got all jittery during lunch hour when Jungkook didn't join them. Taehyung was behaving like himself, laughing at Hoseok's jokes but it was nothing new for Jimin. This is how Taehyung handled stuff, by avoiding, by being distracted and weird about the whole matter. Jimin though was happy for the break from the argument because he had Jungkook to think of.
It was out of habit when Jungkook was busy, Jimin would just barge in his office to check if he's all right and vice-versa. And Jimin just did that without overthinking. He blasted through the door like he always did and shouted without seeing.
"Hey, you didn't come for-, umm Sorry?" There was Jin sitting across from Jungkook and it seemed they were talking about something important. Seokjin didn't waste time before speaking up.
"He'll eat with me. We need to settle this contract first."
"Yeah, okay! I'll leave." Jimin said as he looked at Jungkook whose eyes were just stuck on him all this time. There was no anger in his eyes but there was nothing else Jimin could make out as well. He wished he knew what was going on in the younger's mind. He bolted the door and reluctantly came back to his seat to finish his work. Taehyung and him had to talk over multiple projects they were working on. And nothing about his leaving or the day before was spoken throughout the day.
As Jimin left the building all on his own that day, he walked out the main gate thinking what he would do tonight. Then he spotted a familiar car standing outside. He ran towards the passenger side only to find Jungkook looking back at him while sitting on the driving side. Jungkook gave him a small nod and nothing more like he was scared of what he should do next. But that was no longer a puzzle for Jimin. He quickly opened the card door and slid inside, putting on his belt and closed his eyes, breathing deeply like he got a bed to rest. As the car started and moved, no words were said and Jimin just looked outside.
Jungkook looked at Jimin as the older one was looking outside. When he stopped at a red light, he took out his phone and typed a text.
"I got him"
