Choi Youra

If you would've told me, this morning when I left for work, that I would be sitting in a car with seven complete strangers, on my way to a motel, because my parents were missing because of something called "shapeshifters", I'd have laughed in your face. Never in a million years did I think that something as unlikely as that would ever happen to me. That was the kind of stuff you read about in books, or saw on tv. It wasn't something that happened in the real world.

Well, apparently I was wrong about that.

I looked out of the window. The shy guy - I think his name was Jungkook - was driving, and the rest of the group was quiet, most of them - if not all of them - asleep by now. I had no clue where this motel even was, and I didn't really care either. After everything I'd seen today, I didn't want to stay in that house. I think it traumatised me for life.

'Hey, what colour is a hamburger?' I heard someone quietly say next to me. I quickly looked around me, startled by the sudden voice, and saw Jin look at me.
'Huh?'
'What colour is a hamburger?' He repeated himself, making me more confused than I already was.
'I... Don't know?'
'Burgundy.' He laughed at his own joke and I couldn't help but chuckle as well.
'You must be really confused by all of this.'
'I am.' He stayed quiet for a second.
'I might not be the best here helping out with feelings and such, but if you ever have any questions or if you ever want to talk about anything, I'm here.'
'Thank you.' I smiled, and so did he. For a while, we just sat there, silently listening to the sounds of people breathing and the wheels of the van gliding over the asphalt. It was then, at that time, that I suddenly felt a tear escape my eye and roll down my cheek. Then, as if that single drop had turned the showers on, more and more rolled down my face. I tried to be as silent as I could be, not wanting to wake anyone up, embarrassed for my sudden display of emotions.

The truth was that I was scared. Not so much for myself, but mainly for my parents. I didn't even want to imagine what had happened to them. If they weren't dead - which, somehow, seemed like the worse option out of the two - I hoped they were okay. I hoped the shifters hadn't hurt them too much. I hoped they weren't hurt. I hoped we'd find them, and everything would be over soon.

'Hey, I have another one for you.' Jin said quietly again. When I turned my head towards him, I saw he had his face turned the other way, clearly wanting to save me the embarrassment of showing my wet face to him.
'What is it?'
'How does a cow laugh?' I wiped the tears from my cheeks.
'I don't know. How?'
'Moo-hahahaha.' We both snickered at that one.
'How long have you guys been together?'
'For years now, and even longer if you count the time before everyone was part of it.' He took a deep breath. 'At first, it was Namjoon and Yoongi. They've been together the longest. After a while, Hoseok and I joined, followed by Jungkookie, then Taehyung, Jimin, and now you.' He smiled at me, as I let my eyes go over the guys I could see.
'You must be quite freaked out, right? Sitting in a car with people you don't even know?' I nodded.
'Would it help if I'd tell you some things about each member? Just so you have a bit of an idea of who they are?' I nodded again.
'Well, first of all, there's me: worldwide handsome and worldwide funny guy, but you can just call me Seokjin or Jin.' He then looked over his shoulder at the sleeping Taehyung behind him. 'That guy, Taehyung, is quite outgoing - as you've probably noticed. He likes art, clothes and accessories. He likes to listen to jazz music and can actually play the saxophone.' I looked at Taehyung, whose head was resting against the window, as his arms were loosely wrapped around his body. He looked so peaceful.
'The guy in front of me, Jimin, used to be a contemporary dancer before he joined. He also has a black belt in taekwondo...' - Impressive, I thought - '...He is a huge fan of meat, kimchi, fruit and basically any type of food. No seafood, though.'
'I don't like seafood either.'
'So you don't like shrimp?'
'Nope.'
'You're crazy.' Without hesitating, he pointed at Hoseok. 'Hobi is a great dancer as well. We sometimes call him our choreographer as a joke, because he's usually the one walking them through our operations while he and I stay and work in the van. He likes traditional Korean food quite a lot, and he wanted to be a tennis player before he joined.'
'Tennis?' I don't know why, but I was surprised to hear that. Jin nodded.
'He once came in third in a tennis tournament.'
'Third? That's amazing!' I whispered, and Jin chuckled.
'Well, not really.'
'Huh? Why not?'
'There were only three contenders.' We both giggled, not wanting to make too much noise. After we were quiet again, his finger moved from Hoseok to Yoongi.
'Yoongi over there is quite good at basketball. He's a good cook, too, and is usually very calm. He loves hip-hop and sleep. Don't put him in a crowded place though, he hates those.' I looked at the sleeping man and sighed.
'I don't think he likes me very much.'
'Who? Yoongi? He'll warm up to you. He's not very outgoing and he can be really straightforward, but he has a good heart. Trust me, he'll come around.' I really hope Jin was right. All the guy had done since he returned from whatever it was he did with those corpes, he had looked at me as if I was a piece of trash that someone threw on his precious living room floor.
'Then, in the front, we have Namjoon, our leader. He's crazy smart - has an IQ of 148 or something, no lie - but also really clumsy. We sometimes call him the God of Destruction, you'll probably get why really soon.' He took some time to keep himself from laughing, probably thinking of a funny moment, or something. 'He taught himself how to speak English by watching that tv-show Friends.' Impressive. I hope he didn't sound like Ross because of that.

'And then there's Jungkook, our golden youngest.'
'Golden youngest?'
'Yes. Good at everything he does, basically. Except for talking to girls. Not great at that one yet.' Jin made sure to say that a bit louder to make sure our driver could hear him, earning himself an angry look through the rearview mirror. Jin winked.
'He's also very competitive, and he loves to tease Jimin about his height. I mean, we all do, but Jungkook loves it the most. He also loves to work out and has a thing for Bluetooth speakers. Don't ask me why, I don't know.'

Looking at the boys now, after Jin's little introduction, made me feel a little more at ease than I was before. Maybe, just maybe, this whole situation wouldn't be that bad. The boys seemed nice - well, at least most of them did - and even though I had no idea what horrors I would have to face, knowing I had them around me made me feel safe.

At least I wouldn't be alone.
