'You know the rules: nobody sleeps alone. Pick your roommates while Hobi and I go get our keys.' Namjoon and Hoseok walked off to reception, and I watched them go. I was standing next to Jin, whom I'd been talking to for basically the entire drive. I had been getting more and more comfortable with the second, but that seemed to quickly fade away after Namjoon's statement. Pick a roommate? How was I supposed to do that?
'So, who is rooming with the girl?' Taehyung asked, rubbing his eyes.
'I will.' Jin said full of determination. 'We've been bonding while you all slept anyway, and she laughs at my jokes. Plus: I don't want her to have to sleep in the same room as Jimin. Not on her first night.'
'Hey...' A tired Jimin said. He must've decided that he was too tired to go against the statement made by Jin - or that there was some truth in it - and didn't say anything after that anymore.
'So Jin will go with her. I will go with Hoseok, Taehyung can go with Jimin. Jungkook goes with Namjoon.'
'I roomed with Namjoon last time.' The young one protested. I had no clue why he seemed so against it; Namjoon seemed like quite a nice guy, judging by the five seconds I'd talked with him.
'I know and I'd room with him but I really can't right now.' Yoongi said, his voice less angry and more explanatory. 'I'll take him next time.'
'I'll switch with you. I don't mind anyway. You go with Jimin.' Jungkook smiled at Taehyung, who smiled back. I was just happy to not have to pick anyone. The other two boys returned with four keys.
'Okay, tell me.' Namjoon said, looking at everyone. I couldn't help but notice Yoongi avoiding Namjoon's eyes as he took one of the keys and signalled Hoseok to come with him, walking to their room. Namjoon didn't seem to think his behaviour was weird and just looked at the rest of us, who were still standing in the same spot we'd been standing in this entire time.
'I'm with Youra, you're with Taehyung and Jimin is with Jungkook.' Jin quickly explained, taking one of the keys from the leader. He picked up his bag and looked at me. 'What time are we going for breakfast tomorrow?'
'Eight. I want to leave around Ten.' Namjoon said, handing one of the two keys he was still holding to Jimin, who raised his thumbs up as both a thank you and an okay before walking away. Jin looked at me and smiled.
'Ready to sleep?' I nodded, not knowing if I would actually be able to fall asleep that night. Not after everything that happened. I was ready to try, though. The room was nothing special - just two single beds and a bathroom. It was clean, which was a nice plus. Luckily nothing like the horrible, nasty things you sometimes saw on television. At least that wasn't reality, unlike other things.
I sat down on one of the beds, letting my bag drop on the floor and looking at Jin, who was closely inspecting the window. Eventually he must've decided that the window was harmless, because he turned towards me.'Do you sleep in motels often?'
'When we are on missions, yes. In between missions we're usually at our headquarters.'
'And where's that?'
'Drink some water, first.' He said, handing me a bottle from his bag. Not seeing the harm in it and realising I was quite thirsty, I gladly took the plastic bottle from the guy, taking a big sip before handing it back. Jin - who had been looking at me gulping down the water - smiled and sat down on the other bed.
'Our headquarters are just outside of Seoul. We're on our way there now. I think we should arrive by tomorrow afternoon. That is, if nothing happens.'
'If nothing happens?'
'Yeah, you know, something supernatural.' I nodded. Of course he meant that. I could've guessed that. It was still so surreal to me, and I was afraid it still hadn't really hit me that this was my life now.Jin had gotten up again, putting the water bottle back in his bag, taking out some salt and spreading it in a straight line in front of both the window and the door. I didn't even dare to ask him why he did that, knowing it probably had something to do with things I couldn't comprehend yet. Instead, I just watched as he walked back to his bag, putting the salt away and taking out a set of blue pyjamas.
'Do you want to use the bathroom first, or should I go first?'
'You can go.'
'Okay. Be right back.' He disappeared behind a door and soon after I heard the tap turn on. I let myself fall on my bed, staring at the ceiling. Not long after, I took my phone out, suddenly driven by curiosity. I needed to know more information and I needed it fast. When Jin walked back in, I was too busy reading some kind of wiki online to notice. It wasn't till he took the phone out of my hands, that I saw he was now wearing his pyjamas, ready for bed.
'I was reading that.' He looked at my phone and laughed.
'If you want reliable information, you shouldn't read that. The internet is helpful, but sometimes also very - very - wrong.' He threw my phone back to me. 'You will find all the information you need at the headquarters. I promise. Now, if I were you, I'd get ready for sleep. You heard Namjoon: we have to be outside at eight for breakfast.'I sighed, took my pyjamas and my toiletries out of my bag and went to the bathroom. When I eventually returned, Jin was under his covers, hugging a pillow, his eyes closed. The only light still burning in the room came from a little lamp standing on the shared side table. I made my way to my own bed.
'You can leave the light on, if you prefer. I don't mind.'
'Thank you.' I said, leaving the light on and seeking comfort under the blankets.
'Good night.'
'Good night.'I had no clue how I managed to do it, but I fell asleep pretty quickly, drifting off into a dreamless state of pure bliss. It wasn't until the next morning that I opened my eyes again, woken up by Jin gently shaking me. He was already dressed and looked at me with a kind smile.
'You should probably get ready. It's 7.30am.' I nodded and sat up, while Jin started cleaning up the salt he sprinkled the night before. After five minutes of watching him, he turned to me and laughed.
'Yah, if I knew you'd be like this after waking up, I'd have woken you up at 6am!'
'I'll go get ready now.' I quickly got out of bed, still listening to Jin's laugh that - now that I thought of it - really sounded like someone wiping a window.I was done in time, and five minutes before 8am, we stepped out of our room. To my surprise, the rest were already there, talking to each other and waiting for us. Jimin waved at us excitedly.
'How'd you sleep?'
'Pretty well, thank you.'
'She was hard to wake up to, though. I had to shake her a couple of times.' Jin shook me a couple of times, playfully, making Jimin burst out in a very happy laughter, just like the others. All, except Yoongi, of course. I couldn't help but wonder if he could laugh. At least the rest seemed fun. It didn't take long for Jimin and Taehyung to start telling me more stories, and even Jungkook managed to say "Hello". Hoseok and Namjoon asked me a bunch of questions, trying to get to know me a bit better, and Jin - well - he was Jin, telling a bunch of jokes. Very soon, I started feeling less like the outsider, and more like I was among friends. It felt good. Really, really good.
