Through trials and tribulations, Grover and Pat made it back to Camp Half-Blood, where the former immediately rushed to the Juniper groves that homed his girlfriend. Pat had rushed to find Annabeth and Silena, assembling together the war council.
Pallas seemed angry, "Where have you been?" He demanded.
"I was with Percy," He said, "I can explain everything soon, but we need to get to Manhattan. All of us. Kronos is going to attack, and we have to protect Olympus. Percy sent me," He pleaded, "We can't let him down."
"How will we get there?" Katie Gardner asked.
Chiron spoke up, "The delivery vans will take us to Manhattan. Did Percy say where we should meet him?"
"Olympus," Pat said seriously, "Bring every weapon you can."
The forty demigods packed together in the Delphi Strawberry delivery vans as quickly as possible, loading swords, knives, and everything in between with them. As expected, the Ares cabin refused to join them.
For once, Pat was too tired to get into an argument, preserving his energy for the real fight. He only shook his head. "I expected more out of you, Clarisse," He said shortly, and he walked away.
The demigods were almost to the Queens-Midtown tunnel when Annabeth's phone started ringing — technology helped monsters track them, so they used such things sparingly, but in times of war, Annabeth kept it on her person. She picked up the call, relieved and stressed as she relayed to the boys that it was Percy on the other line.
"Percy, where have you been? Your message said almost nothing! We've been worried sick!" She berated him. While Pat understood her stress, especially considering how little she knew about the things he'd just done, Pat was mainly just happy to hear that Percy had survived his fools errand.
"We're on our way like you asked, almost to the Queens–Midtown Tunnel." Annabeth told him, probably in response to a question, "But, Percy, what are you planning? We've left the camp virtually undefended, and there's no way the gods—"
Percy must have cut her off or lost the call, because she huffed and put her phone away. "Just trust him," she said mockingly.
Pat sighed and settled back into his seat, attempting to cherish this last moment of rest. It felt like such a short window of time between then and their arrival at the Empire State Building. Annabeth perked up next to him, "There's Percy!" She sounded too excited, which she must have known because she added, "And Mrs. O'Leary."
The Delphi Strawberry Service vans pulled to the curb, and the doors slid open, signaling a bunch of campers to pour out.
Silena helped Pat out of the van, and he gave Percy a tight embrace on the sidewalk. "No Ares cabin?" He asked. Pat bit back mean words on his tongue and nodded; Percy seemed to think it wasn't worth getting angry over, and he brushed it off as they helped Chiron use the handicap lift to get off the last van.
