The walk from the parking lot to my class isn't very interesting, but what I'm seeing in the hallway is.
Shawn and Jack seem to be in the middle of a heated argument.
"Why have you been lying then?" Shawn spits at Jack.
Lying about what?
"Because Shawn, it's expensive and my parents can afford it. Why can't you just let this go? It's not a big deal." Jack rubs his face.
I am a terrible person for sitting here just watching this go down, but I am no where close enough to either of them to go intrude.
"Are you calling me broke? I don't live in the slums anymore, do I?"
"No, I'm just pointing out that my parents have enough money to spare, so it's not a big deal."
Shawn scoffs, "Are you forgetting we share a dad? It's a big deal to me."
Jack looks almost as done with this conversation as I am with living in a cubicle sized trailer. "Obviously I know we share a dad, that's not what I meant. Just look at where both of us come from. Why can't you just accept this? No one else would be complaining."
Jack storms away from his half-brother and the later results to hitting a wall. Aggressive person when mad, noted.
I walk over after seeing this and go to console Shawn. "You okay?"
"No, obviously not." Shawn barks at me before sighing, "I'm sorry, I just hate sympathy. Jack has been basically letting me live in our apartment for free, and I just found out how much it actually costs to stay there."
"Are you kidding?"
"No, he doesn't understand that treating me like I'm poor makes me feel like shit."
I chuckle in disbelief, "Shawn, do you hear yourself? I sleep around to avoid staying at the trailer park and you're complaining that your brother is being a decent human being?"
Shawn shakes his head, obviously not realizing that I would not be agreeing with him. "You don't understand."
"You're right. I don't understand. Because I am still at the Pink Flamingo. You left. You had the opportunity to leave. I'm still stuck in the shit hole we grew up in. So yeah, I know. I don't understand because I don't have the privilege to live anywhere but the 'slums'."
And just as Jack had done moments before, I left Shawn standing behind me.

This 30 minute break seems to be going by insanely fast. I sip my latte and nibble on the blueberry muffin I get as an employee for free, I watch the people who have friends socialize.
"You don't look like you're working." Eric freakin Matthews.
"I'm on this thing called a break."
"I've never seen you on a break before."
I nod, "I don't always take them. Today is special. My feet hurt."
Eric sits next to me and slugs an arm around my shoulders. "You should probably learn how to give yourself a break once in a while."
I take his hand and remove his arm, placing it back onto his lap. "What does it look like I'm doing right now?"
"I meant a real break." His hand moves from his lap to my leg. "Like more than 20 minutes."
"Money seems more important than a break." I move his hand once again, and stretch my limbs, preparing to finish the last leg of my shift.
"How are your classes?"
I raise an eyebrow at him, "How are my classes? Is that really what you wanted to say to me?"
"Can't I ask an innocent question? Make small talk?" Eric stands up and takes my hand to help me up.
"I have a feeling you haven't sat with me on my break to make small talk."
Eric lets out a small laugh, "Not every mans motive is sex." "Yes, but you're not every man."
I walk behind the counter and put my apron back on, Eric following closely behind.
"So, what time do you get off."
"10 o'clock."
And that's how I ended up in Eric Matthew's bed later that night.
