Keith and I had a surprisingly peaceful dinner last night.

I don't know if it was because he was sober, but nothing went wrong. I got home after work, the pizza was in the kitchen, and he was waiting for me while watching T.V. He even waited for me to get home to eat.

Once we got our food and sat at the table, he started asking me questions about my life; When did Shawn and I become friends? Are my classes easy or hard? How much more do I have to do? How's my job going? Is the car working well?

After I answered a million and one questions, he started telling me about his life. Apparently he's seeing someone now and they're doing well. I cleaned up our plates and put the leftover pizza in the fridge, and I fully expected him to go out after we were done, but he went into his room right away and didn't come back out.

This morning he even said good morning to me and told me to have a good day as I left for class. It was definitely weird, but a good weird.

I got through my Friday classes, and then headed for the mall where I said I would meet Topanga to get ready for Halloween.

When I got there, I went inside and sat by the entrance so that I would see her walking in. It was 2:50 now so she should be getting here soon.

I people watched for a bit until I heard my name being called. Topanga came walking towards me and I stood up to greet her.

"Hey, Ophelia! Ready to shop?" Topanga grins and hugs me.

I hug her back and let go, "Of course. Only problem is, I have no idea what the hell I'm going to be."

Topanga hooks her arm in mine and guides me to the halloween store, "That's what I'm here for. We have to make you look sexy."

I giggle and follow her lead, "What are you being? I'm assuming it's a couples costume with Cory?"

"Cory wanted to be a cowboy, so I am his cowgirl," Topanga says, clearly with a tone that says 'this wasn't my idea'. "I had to negotiate with him. He originally wanted me to be a horse, I told him no way in hell was I dressing up like his animal, so cowgirl it is."

Of course Cory thought of a horse before a cowgirl.

"That's adorable though, when will I be able to match with someone," I sigh over-dramatically.

"You can match with anyone you want to, but you're doing it alone this year so you have to be the sexiest girl there, not like you already aren't dressed normally," Topanga slyly compliments me. Topanga is one of the most beautiful women I have ever seen before, I know she's just being modest.

I thank her and walk over to the other wall of costumes, "What about a mermaid?"

Topanga shakes her head, "Vetoed, sorry."

I keep looking on the walls, passing the devil/angel costume, a witch, and a firefighter. None of these costumes are speaking to me.

Topanga gasps, "I found a perfect costume for you."

I look over and examine the costume that she's holding up, "A pirate?"

She nods and hands it to me, "You would look SO good in this, please consider it."

"Done, I will be a pirate." I drape the costume over my arm and grab a couple of accessories that would go great with the costume. "Costume settled, let's go grab some decorations."

Topanga grabs a basket and we start grabbing things for the party. Topanga picked out black and orange streamers to put up, some dark purple balloons, and spider web things to put on the drink table. I grabbed some neon colored solo cups, and little spiders to throw at people for a little scare.

"What else should we get? Do you like this cauldron bowl? We could use it at the punch bowl," I held it up to show Topanga.

"Absolutely, put it in the basket."

I placed it in and we looked around for any last minute decorations. After grabbing a couple more things, we checked out and left the store.

Just as I was about to leave, Topanga asked if I wanted to go get a smoothie with her. Of course I agreed and we walked to the smoothie bar.

I got a raspberry-mango smoothie, Topanga blueberry-pineapple, and we found a table to sit at.

"I can't wait for the party. Angela doesn't come around much anymore because of her split with Shawn, but she said she would show up for the party," Topanga smiles. "You guys are friends, right?"

I nod, "Friendly. We don't really see each other much, but I think that she's one of the kindest people I know."

"Stupid Shawn. I don't know why he's been acting weird lately. How he could lose Angela is beyond me. And the girls he's been bringing home are definitely not better than Angela. Last night he was with some blonde girl," Topanga rolled her eyes.

"Do you know who it was?"

She shakes her head, "No, he's been having a bunch of girls over though," Topanga sips her drink, "None of them twice either."

I sit there and swirl my straw around my drink. Never twice? Really? I get lost in my thoughts until Topanga snaps me out of it, "Oh shit, I'm sorry, Ophelia."

Maybe my face was showing too much emotion because Topanga looks at me with concern.

"For what? I'm fine," I smile lightly, "Shawn's actions don't have anything to do with me."

Topanga gives me a look that clearly says don't bullshit me, "You don't have to lie to me, Phelia. You're allowed to have feelings for Shawn."

I almost cringe, "I don't know that they're feelings."

"Well, whatever they are, you don't have to hide them from me"

I'm not sure if it was the compassion, or just because it was Topanga, but I blurt out, "I kissed him."

Topanga seems to choke on her smoothie, "You what?"

"It was when we went to the drive-in. I don't know why I did it, but I kissed him and he pushed me away almost immediately. He told me we were friends and he didn't want to start our friendship off on the wrong foot," I become red in the face with my confession. "I got mad at him but I think it was because he rejected me. I wish I didn't do it though because I really like Angela and I would never try to take her man like that."

Topanga gives me another sympathetic look, "You didn't do anything to Angela, they weren't together. And just because she dated him does not mean she has a claim on him for the rest of his life."

I try to take in her words, especially because this is Angela's best friend. She wouldn't say this if she didn't mean it, right?

"Does this mean that you're over Eric?" Topanga asked.

"I don't think that I ever liked Eric more than a friend. I think I liked the fact that he was a friend I was sleeping with, not a random guy," I admit. I've thought about this before bed a couple of times. I think that he was just extremely comforting for me to be with, knowing that he actually cared about me, and didn't just use my body and never talk to me again.

"That's good, you guys seem close," Topanga smiled.

"I like to think that we are," I notice both of our drinks are done. I grab our garbage and throw it out, "Do you need help setting the decorations up?"

Topanga shakes her head, "No, I think Angela's gonna come and help me, thank you though."

I don't know why I assumed this would still be a me and Topanga thing. Naive I guess.

"Do you want to get ready together tomorrow? You can come to Cory and I's apartment and we can all walk over together."

I nod and agree to come over tomorrow. We agree on meeting at her place at 6 o'clock and say our goodbyes.
