Liliana's POV

It's been a few hours since Rhea and her friends from Grace Field went to the forest to find the demon king.

Meanwhile, me and everyone else have to take care of the "perfect kids".

They were confused and scared at first, but they seem to have warmed up to us.

-Liliana! -Antoinette called out, holding a colorful "perfect" boy in her arms. -The kids are getting hungry.

-Okay, I'll cook something in a moment.

While I was preparing the food, a small, "perfect" girl walked up to be and tagged on my shirt.

-Ma'am... when will our Mama come back home? -she asked.

I kneeled down to her level and pat her head.

-What was your name, dear?

-Daisy... -she blinked innocently.

-You know, Daisy... You don't have to worry about your Mama. Soon enough, you'll understand what's going on and you and your siblings will be safe and happy. I promise.

-We'll be happy? Will there be candy, then? -the little girl jumped up and down in excitement.

-Sure, lots of candy. -I chuckled.

Daisy smiled and ran back to her siblings, probably to tell them about all the candy they're gonna get.

All the kids were playing and talking, either among each other or with my siblings.

All of them, expect one boy.

He seemed to be about 11 years old. As expected, he was identical to his siblings - half of his face white, the other half black, his hair and eyes in rainbow colours. If I remember correctly, his name was Xavier.

He just stood there with his arms crossed.

-Something wrong, Xavier? -I asked, walking up to him.

-I know what's going on here. -he said. -Well, for the most part at least.

His answer didn't really surprise me or anything. After all, I also found out the truth when I was his age.

-I see. Sorry, kid.

-Why exactly where the farms destroyed so suddenly?

-My sister saved you kids. And she saved me as well.

-Do you mean Miss Rhea?

Okay, that one surprised me.

-You kids know who Rhea is?

-Yeah. There are books about her. She is the most talented human being ever known. Mama used to tell us she's fictional, but I figured out she must real and a very important person on the farms. That woman I saw the moment I was born... It must have been her.

-Oh, she is important alright. -I smiled. -In fact, she's looking for the demon king so he can find you kids a place to stay as we speak.

-Ah... I see. I thought about that too. There is way too many of us, and we have nowhere to go.

Yeah, Rhea wasn't joking when she said those children were created massively. There used to be about 38 kids on each farm back in my days. Right now, each plantation consists of at least 200 kids.

-By the way -I said -How often did the shipments take place?

-Someone was "adopted" every night. And a new sibling arrived every morning.

Damn, those new farms sure worked fast. Now I know why it's all called "perfect". Not only all the kids are delicious, there are also shipped everyday. The demons must have been delighted.

-Lili! I just saw a bird with a letter around its leg! -Bruce called out.

Indeed, there was a bird like that sitting on the windowsill. I gently took it into my hands and unwrapped the paper around its leg.

Once the bird flew away, I took a look at the letter.

"Hey, Liliana.

I hope you and everyone else is doing fine. Same goes for the perfect kids. In case you were wondering, we're all good. Well, Don had a funny encounter with some demons, but he's fine now and I'll tell you all about it once we get back. We're really close to the portal and I'm pretty sure a certain key I found in the forest will help us find some clues. By the way, I think you guys should explain the situation to the perfect children. And once we're back, make sure they're all gathered in one spot (just in case). Also, that's a secret, but I want you, and only you, to know one more thing. No matter what the demon king's price will be, I'm ready to sacrifice myself if needed. Don't worry about me, thou.

                                                 Love, Rhea."

I chuckled at how casual the last part sounded and hugged the letter to my chest.

Rhea. My little sister. True, she was better than me at everything, but I still wanted to protect her. She was the only younger kid I knew I could trust with the House's secret. And after all those years, she didn't change one bit.

During my first escape from the Goodwill Ridge, I was really scared. There were moments where I just wanted to give up and let it all end, but when I thought about Rhea, and the teasing smug face she would have knowing I'm chickening out, I felt motivated again.

Rhea loves to tease and annoy others, yet she's the most caring person I've ever met. She does so much for others, it's like she's watching over everyone.

I looked at the "perfect" kids, now eating the food I prepared. Talking, laughing, helping the younger ones.

Rhea barely knows any of those kids, she didn't spend any time with them. Despite that, she wants all of them to be happy.

I really want to be like her.

-Jeez. -Asher, one of the "perfect" kids complained. -Don't push me, would you?

-Sorry! -Cherry, another one of them giggled. -Here, let me help you.

She kneeled down to help Asher with the paper plates he dropped. The boy ruffled her hair, much to her annoyance.

-You can't catch us! -two perfect boys laughed while they older sister chased them, pretending to be a monster.

-I'm gonna eat you two up! -she caught the boys, all three of them laughing.

-Look, I ate all of my vegetables!

-Yeah. Good job, Bella. -a perfect boy pat his little sister's head, making her giggle.

You know, despite of all them being nothing more than a mix of our own genes, they really feel like a happy family.

I hope the demon king will send them to a happy world, but first...

-Listen up, children. -I clapped my hands to get the kids' attention. -I think it's time we explain what exactly is going on here.

I'd rather not describe the poor kids' reactions in detail. Unlike me and my siblings, those kids not only found out they were raised to be eaten, they're also mutants created with our genes.

After a few hours, they seemed to have calmed down, but the happy atmosphere was gone once and for all. I feel bad, but they needed to know the truth.

All that is left now is wait for Rhea and hope this is all going to end well.

I held a sleeping girl in my arms, tear marks on her cheeks.
