Playing with Fire

Kion slunk through the trees of Ndefu Grove, burning stick in his mouth.

He crawled through the undergrowth, careful not to wake up the galagos or any of the other animals inhibiting the grove.

He comes upon the tree where Azaad and Fuli had first shared their love.

He has hated that tree for no other reason since that day. Now, he gets his revenge. Or, at least, the start of it.

He drops the torch, and grins as he backs up.

The fire quickly consumes the trunk and then the lower branches. It was a beautiful sight as the taller branches also went up in flames.

Kion laughs, before turning and running out of the grove.

When he reaches the edge, he looks back. The entire grove is on fire. All the trees are burning and oh, how he wishes he could stay to hear the screams as the Pride Landers discovered that their home was burning.

But he couldn't. He had more work to do. He laughs softly, and sprints to the next location designated for destruction.

He softly hums a song, which he dubs "Arsonist's Lullaby," as he climbs up the hill to the cliff where Azaad and Fuli had gone on their first date.

He grabs a stick from the ground, lying near the trees. He scrapes two rocks together with his paws, and the rocks spark and light the stick on fire.

A bit primitive, but a good method. Kion bends down and picks up the stick with his mouth, gripping it firmly before trotting over to the burning point, happy like a dog with a bone.

He drops the stick at the roots of the two trees who were growing next to each other.

He steps back to admire his work. The first jump of the spark. The whoosh of the flame as the wind caught it and decided to help a noble cause. The silent screams of the trees as the monstrous yet godly beast crawled up their bodies and tore them apart, while yet alive.

He again wishes he could stay, but he must leave now.

Kion spins around, and rushes out, frantically. With the light of dawn approaching, he needs to be back at Pride Rock before his absence is noted and a search party is launched.

Kion chuckles as he runs along, the wind at his back propelling him forward. The first sliver of sunlight reaches out and finds the top of Pride Rock. As Kion climbs to the Royal Cave, he whispers. "This is only the beginning." He grins darkly. "Watch out Pride Lands, for you will pay. And fire will fall before this is over."
