Vita looks out over the Pridelands. The dark sky has lightened as the sun rises, casting its warm glow on everything and making the world seem more cheerful.
Everyone in the Pridelands was gathered below, chattering amongst themselves. Vita clears her throat and steps up, looking around at everyone.
"The Messiah's death is a terrible tragedy. But to lose Kion, who had barely begun to live... For me, it is a deep, personal loss. So it is with a heavy heart that I assume the throne.Yet out of the ashes of this tragedy, we shall rise to greet the dawning of a new era, in which jackal and hyena come together in a great and glorious future!"
All the jackals and hyenas in the crowd cheer, as do the crocodiles, skinks, cobras, leopards and the vultures. The rest looked worried and scared, but they go along as well, if only to please the new queen.
A while later.
Two days after her coronation and ascension to the throne, Vita lays on the flat rock in the Royal Cave. She flicks her tail as one of her hyena commanders comes in.
"What is it?" she asks, feigning disinterest.
"My queen, one of our patrols was attacked."
Vita sits up straighter. "By who?"
"We found this at the site, Your Majesty, but none of us can understand what it is. I mean, we've seen it before, but we don't know what it means. Could you try to decipher it, Your Highness?"
Vita nods. And takes the piece of bark he holds out to her. Her eyes narrow as she sees the symbol. "I know what this is. They're back."
"Who is, Your Majesty?" The hyena asks.
"The Lion Guard!" she snaps. "Find them, and bring them to me!"
"Yes, Your Highness!" The hyena bows, and runs out.
"I'll kill that cheetah myself," growls Vita. "If it's the last thing I ever do."
