Kion's eyes slowly open. The light filters between the cracks, and he hisses softly. He slowly pushes himself up and looks around.
He's lying on a long slab of rock in a dark cave, with a little sliver of sunlight coming through a small hole in the wall, the beam aiming directly at Kion's face, making him squint.
"Well, well, looks like the sleepy patient awakes," says a voice, amused.
Kion turns his head to the side and looks at the silhouette of a body in the entrance to the cave. Their shape made them out to be a canine of some sort.
"Who are you?" Kion asks, his voice cracking slightly.
The shadowy shape steps into the cave, and Kion can see them more clearly as his blurred vision clears.
His deduction was right. The creature was a canine. A jackal to be specific. And to be even more specific, a black-backed jackal. Just like Reirei and her pack. Kion tilts his head, something seemed familiar about this beautiful female jackal. Her eyes especially.
"I am Vita," the shape says. "And of course, you are Prince Kion, son of King Simba and Queen Nala, and younger brother to Princess Kiara, the future queen of the Pridelands. And you, O Great Prince, are in my home and under my care."
"Now," she says, leaning forward until her black nose touched Kion's, their foreheads inches apart. "What are you doing in the Outlands? Shouldn't you be with the other lions, lording it over the Pridelands?"
Kion snorts. "You sound like you've met my friend Fuli."
Vita smiles slightly. "Perhaps I have." Her eyes narrow. "Now answer my question."
Kion sighs. "I was a great lion, the fiercest in the Pridelands. I was the son of the King and leader of the Lion Guard. Whatever I wanted, I got. I developed feelings for one of my friends, Fuli, a cheetah and the fastest in the Pridelands. But she was dating another cheetah, Azaad. One day, I told her about my feelings, and - get this - she refused me. Rejected me! She said she loved neither me nor Azaad, but a lioness in my father's pride, named Busu. Now, I get that she might not like Azaad, but that filthy lie about loving Busu over me, it made me furious. I vowed to make her love me, and I destroyed anything she and Azaad had connection to throughout their relationship. But that evil lioness, Siri the Smartest, found out and told my father. But I got rid of her. Oh yes, she was never a problem again. But after I attempted to destroy Azaad and his home, my own father stopped me and banished me. I was without food nor water for a whole day, and if you have never found me, I might have died at the claws of those monstrous thieving buzzards. So, thank you for that. And that is my story."
Vita looks at him, appraising. "Well, Kion. I think you and I both have a dislike for the current rulers of the Pridelands. I'd be happy to make arrangements with you involving them."
Kion looks at her, wary and untrusting. "What do you mean?"
She sticks out a paw. "What I am offering is, do you want to be allies?"
Kion smiles. "Oh yes."
They shake, and a new alliance is born.
