Hugh POV:
Something was wrong. Really wrong. I could feel it. She seemed as if she had given up, all fight had left her body.
She began chopping and slicing various ingredients and sliding them into various bowls. "What happened to you?" I asked her worriedly, walking over to the counter.
"Hugh, please. I'm fine," she said in a soft voice with little fight.
Mrs. Mason rushed around preparing lunch, but Amelia remained unfazed. She continued to chop and prep ingredients as if nothing was going on around her. She was scaring me.
"Amelia?"
"Go play games with the boys, I need to finish prepping these," she spoke softly.
So I did the only thing I could, I left.
I climbed the stairs two at a time and joined Justin, James, and Jason in the livingroom upstairs. They were already pulling out various board games.
"Do any of you know where Amelia went this morning?" I asked them.
They shook their heads. "No," Jason replied quickly.
"Why are you so obsessed with our sister?" Justin asked curiously.
"You dipshit, he clearly likes her, and treats her way better than her shitty ex did," James responded.
"She told me what happened," I replied sadly. "I would never treat her like that."
"How would you treat her?" Jason asked.
"Probably the way he already does, just with more affection. You should see him in action when she's hurt or not feeling well," James smirked.
"What do you know about that? It seems like she's getting more sick by the day," I replied.
"I don't know, but she takes those pills pretty often. She gets bloody noses and she coughs alot too," Justin spoke up.
"How long has this been going on?" I inquired.
"Months," all three of them answered. From that point on, we didn't speak about Amelia. We played board games and got to know eachother.
The hours flew by and we eventually left the room to return to our own rooms to get ready for dinner.
I laid out on my bed, reading waiting for the time to head downstairs. There was a soft knock at my door. "Come in!" I called out.
"Dinner is ready if you are feeling up to joining," Amelia whispered, opening the door. A moment passed and she rushed to the bathroom, slamming the door behind her and locking it.
Instantly I was at the door. "Are you alright?" I asked in a deep raspy voice. I almost didn't recognize it. I felt protective and possessive. I needed to hear her and know she was okay.
"I'm fine," she coughed. "I'll be down in a moment."
"Are you sure? I can wait," I asked worriedly trying the locked handle.
"Really, I'll be alright," she replied, coughing more.
I left and headed downstairs, realizing she must need a moment to herself.
"Right, Everyone is here, we can begin," Delilah smiled.
"Amelia is actually upstairs, shouldn't we wait for her?" I asked. The faces surrounding the table looked on in agreement, but her mother spoke.
"It's alright, she can eat leftovers later. She has much work to do anyway," she sneered as if Amelia was the bane of her existence and the cause of her every pain.
No one dared speak out to her, though their expressions agreed with mine.
I stood, frustrated. "Thank you for your kind invitation, but I am actually not all that hungry."
"Would you prefer something else? I could have Amelia prepare something different." Delilah spoke.
"No thank you," I replied, leaving the table. Just as I rounded the corner I heard her mother say "That ungrateful little whore. Distracting that boy and keeping him from his dinner. He deserves to spend time with people of his own class."
Her words enraged me, I needed to get to Amelia.
