Hugh's POV:

"I'd like to get tested," her stepfather spoke. Her brothers wanted to as well.

"I'm waiting on the results of another potential donor, but it would be a good idea just in case," I smiled.

"How did the accident happen?" Josh asked.

"An unwelcome guest from my past ran into us at the diner. She kissed me to get a rise out of Amelia," I explained, the anger bubbling to the surface. "Any kind of stress for Amelia is bad, not even a half an hour before that we had finally told eachother we loved eachother. She took off, leaving me money for a cab. Even when she's angry and hurt, she's thinking if everyone else. I followed her in a cab and found her stopped next to a guardrail overlooking a ravine. She must've needed to pull over. We stopped the car a bit back, worried she would speed off if she saw it. Before I could get out of the car, a semi barrelled around the corner, lost control and smashed into her, pushing her through the guardrail and down into the ravine. I know you're not supposed to remove people from a vehicle crash, but gas was leaking and we were worried about a fire. The Cabby and I pulled her out and got the paramedics there. Then we arrived here. They operated and removed the glass."

They all stared at Amelia silently.

My phone rang in my pocket. It was a text from Joanna. "They've just told me that I am a match. We'll be on the next flight out."

"We just found her a match," I spoke jumping up from the bed. Her brothers and stepfather looked at me in shock.

Her stepfather hugged me, tears rolling down his eyes. "Thank you for protecting my little girl when I couldn't. Thank you for helping save her in more ways than one," he spoke.

The doctor came in and explained that he was just checking in. He also explained that they would be entering their "quiet time" for the night and only one guest could stay.

"It should be Hugh," her stepfather spoke softly.

I nodded back at him. "Have you spoken to Dr. Henderson?" I asked the doctor.

"She is on her way here so we can discuss the next steps and scheduling the surgery, I understand the donor is on her way," the doctor spoke.

"She is, she's catching the soonest flight," I smiled.

"May I ask who she is?" Her stepfather asked. "I'd like to thank her."

"It's Joanna," I smiled.

"Your ex fiance, is donating an organ to save the life of my sister who is your current girlfiend?" Jason asked with a laugh. "Someone should really be writing a book about this."

"I'd read it," Dr. Henderson smiled walking in. She introduced herself as Amelia's doctor for the last three years, and also her friend. "I can brief you all, a bit more about her condition a little later. She specifically asked that you be able to access her records when the time came. But right now, time is of the essence and we need to get things in order for the transplant."
