Creatures of the VOID. That's what Dr. W. D. Gaster called them, anyways. Even though his very, very long time in the VOID wasn't one he'd like to remember, there are certain memories Gaster looks back on at times. The Creatures of the VOID is one of the things he thinks of once in a while. They were... strange, to put it lightly.
They aren't a topic he ever brings up, as Gaster sees no point in doing so. After all, even before he fell into his creation, the CORE, any research or scientific theories on the VOID itself was basically non-existent. So, the same goes for anything, or any beings in the VOID.
Gaster remembers there were three. Two of them took on more animalistic, shadowy forms that resembled what he assumed to be a bear and a rabbit, whilst the third was very shapeless, anomalous. Gaster hardly ever tried interacting with them, as he was able to sense something dangerous about them. At first, the skeleton merely thought that they were, somehow, lost SOULs, doomed to ever wander the dark just like him. He came to realize pretty quickly that they weren't monsters, nor were they connected to humans, either. They also seemed to exhibit some kind of dark magic, that seemed to stem from their very SOULs.
After beginning to research anthro SOULS, alongside the scientific research on human and monster SOULS also, Gaster came to realize that these creatures held similarities with anthros. It was a strange detail, something he'd have to look into on his own time as a mere side project. The more he learned how anthro SOULS worked—with some volunteer help from the Marionette—the similarities became more numerous. He bought a small, pocket-sized notebook to write these odd coincidences down whenever he saw them.
Some time after noticing these Creatures, Gaster saw that two of them were able to wander the realm of the living. This in of itself wasn't all that strange, as his fallen, mindless followers could do the same. Whether or not these Creatures could interact with people in reality like his followers could, Gaster didn't know. From the VOID, Gaster could see nothing beyond. Therefor, he was unable to tell.
At some point, when Gaster went to check up on these Creatures—from a distance, and he couldn't help himself due to his curiosity as a scientist—he noticed the rabbit-like one had disappeared. He thought nothing of it, as maybe it had just left to roam amongst reality. Time began to pass, and it never returned. In fact, Gaster never saw that white-eyed rabbit ever again before his rescue from the VOID. The bear, however, remained. That Creature stayed alongside the third, formless Creature for longer. It too vanished shortly before Gaster escaped, and the skeleton was never able to tell if the bear-like Creature returned or not.
Ever since his rescue, Gaster had thought little of those Creatures, too focused on trying to pick back up his life again as Asgore's Royal Scientist, and as a father to the Skeleton Brothers. It was only recently where these things came back to him, and Gaster decided to make trying to studying them—purely by memory—a side project for himself.
The reason why he suddenly decided to pick up such a project? Gaster could sense that dark magic making a return. It wasn't just déja vu, either. He couldn't put a bony finger on it, but he could somehow sense the presence of one of these Creatures, now outside the VOID. Gaster found himself to be checking over his shoulder often, and suddenly becoming warry of dark places. He noticed from a distance, that one of the anthros in Newer Home seemed to have a similar paranoid nature. Gaster could somehow tell that something dark was weighing upon a certain bright blue bunny.
Gaster shrugs these feelings off, but still tries to study these "Creatures of the VOID". He's on his own with this research, as he wouldn't have much luck explaining it to anyone else. For now, that is.
