Grian POV-
Carefully wiping the sweat from my forehead with one hand, I lean my elbow on my worn-down shovel. My hair was damp from the strenuous work and the damp interior of the research lab. I resist the urge to run my fingers through the now extra curly blond locks so I don't accidently colour it purple again. Last time, that ended with an awkward conversation with the Mayor when he asked why my hair had the colour of mycelium streaked through it.
Good thing he's a bit clueless and just took my word for it when I said I was trying a new look.
I reach down to my waist where a water bottle was clipped to my black jeans, my armour, utility belt and backpack tossed haphazardly by my chair in the middle of the room. Quickly tipping the bottle back, I wait for the relief of water on my parched throat. But nothing came.
Sighing slightly, I reclip the bottle to my belt loop, grab the shovel from the mycelium mother block with my sore hands and trudge over to the table tossing the shovel on it for later. Right now, I just wanted a drink, a shower and a change of clothes after working in and with the gross purple block all day.
Leaving my shovel and a couple random items on the table, I toss my backpack over my shoulders, fluttering my wings lightly as I adjust the straps so it won't fall off in my flight home. I quickly swap out my dirt covered tennis shoes for the surprisingly lightweight netherite boats, still intensely grateful they weren't as heavy as diamond. I begin strapping my leggings to my legs, the leather straps on the side of the pants still stiff from lack of use.
Once my utility belt was tightly securely, I grabbed my shovel and helmet and began making my way to the exit. Just as I was fumbling with the strap under my chin, the whoosh of an elytra caught my attention and I turned just in time to see Etho land, quickly waving and calling out a greeting. His excited bouncing that he did every time I saw him make my heart lightly flutter as I wave back.
"I'm just headed out Etho! Enjoy your shift on watch." I waved back and grinned, leaving the base in his capable hands.
"Okay Gri, have a safe flight."
And as my wings spread out, aiming towards the open entrance through which Etho had just come in, I feel butterfly arise in my stomach along with a strange sick feeling. I knew I had felt sick like that before but I couldn't my finger on it. As I rose into the sky, the blue overtaking my sight, I coughed slightly, the sick feeling rising drastically.
The ground began fading away as I focused on breathing, trying to suppress the weird sensation. I knew I liked Etho but this wasn't a normal response to that.
I looped once in the sky, a cough escaping my mouth once again, the pain in my chest spreading outward towards to my limbs. My hands, which I had folded in front of me were shaking severely and the world began to spin slightly. A couple deep breaths seemed to calm the shaking and I decided to take a slow, relaxing fly through the overworld to help clear my mind.
Honestly, I was just more worried about going into the Nether in this state and I just wanted to be home and in a cold shower.
So, I angled towards home, gliding over the Nether portal nearby and flapped a couple times until I caught an air pocket over the ocean which sent me spiralling gently upwards, feeling the air slip through the white feathers of my wings.
