Mateo stared at his calloused hands while thinking about his grandmother's will. His grandma had died earlier than expected. She did just five days ago.

Upon knowing she did not have much time, his grandma reminded Mateo to continue school even knowing about his circumstances.

Mateo graduated middle school a month ago and is ready to fill a new chapter in his life. However, thinking about entering high school, he does not have any magic to pass the exam. He knew the basics of magic and even know minor subjects from his previous school, which they were more inclined to knowledge.

It was different in high school, they have to apply what they have learned to survive in this harsh society. Although Mareville Town looks peaceful, there are unknown territories of Beasts lurking in different towns and cities. Beasts are what everyone called those people who have the intention of stealing, bullying, kidnapping, and even killing weaker people just for fun or for personal reasons.

Knowing that his grandma was his only family and meant too much in his life. Mateo loves her very much that he doesn't want to disappoint her. He thought for a while and accepted his grandma's wish as a challenge.

He put down his hands with a determined look and lift his face, eyeing the dark sky full of twinkling stars. "I think I don't have any choice, right grandma?" He said as if he was talking to his grandma.

Mateo picked up the wooden sword that he used for his training. He continued his self-practice to enhance his physical ability. He slams and slashes the wooden sword in the air. While slamming and slashing, there is a sound perceived from the fast contact of the wooden sword with the wind. It was a pleasing sound as if he was hitting something hard. Mateo's muscles also contract and his grip would tighten.

Not having magic was an absolutely big disadvantage on his part. Since he turned six when the magic will submerge in a child's body, his grandma and even the aunties in the neighborhood do not seem to have seen any difference in his body. It was normal until he turned ten, and they concluded that Mateo was a special case who does not pose any magic. One aunty suggested that Mateo should enhance his body to catch up with others. That was what he did. Because he felt somewhat discriminated against for not having even a drop of energy, he was tempted by the idea and started to exercise his muscles.

After a month passed of studying and training, Mateo was now ready to go to the City of Galeo the biggest and most known school in the country. Although Galeo High was the best in this country with talented and professional teachers as well as the students were powerful in intelligence and magic, Mateo did not choose the school because of its status. It was because the school was near Mareville Town, only an hour of riding a cart and a 5-minute walk was needed. He can also spend lesser money compared to the other cities.

When preparing to leave the town, all the aunties he knew and the children who often he played with was seeing him off.

"Mateo, good luck with the exam!" An aunt who was one of the people who trained Mateo since he was a child said her prayers while holding Mateo's hands.

"Thank you, Aunt Noelle, I hope your prayers will come true" Mateo returned while smiling sweetly and with hopeful eyes.

"You have been training day and night, these hands and your aching body will be your guide to have good results. We know that with your determination you can pass, have confidence dear Mat" Mateo was shocked by Aunt Noelle's words, he just smiled at her reassuring her that he will not disappoint them and of course his grandma.

The time the exam gets closer he did all his best to train with the uncles and aunties he knew. Even though they are not that of a good instructor, they did their best to train him. Having their support was what make Mateo more challenged. Facing a battle without knowing what will happen, he needs to do his best not for his grandma, not for the town's people but himself. He thought that if he will rely on them then he can't level up.
