~Kendra POV~
I gingerly approached the enquiries counter at the lobby of Modest Management headquarters. The complex was grand, like, really grand.
“Good morning! How may I help you?” The concierge lady kindly offered, noticing the lost look written all over my face.
“I’m here for a job interview and I was told to look for a Miss Thomas in the Human Resources department.” My lack of information must have been confusing for the receptionist.
She scanned through a document and clicked. “Kendra Bourne?” She asked.
“Yeah, that’s me.” I nodded in confirmation.
“Miss Thomas and company are expecting you. Please take the elevator to your right. Once you’re on the 20th floor, turn left and you would see the conference room where you will be interviewed.” She gave me a series of directives.
Woah, the 20th floor. This place is gigantic. At least 50 stories high I guessed. I followed the instructions I was given and reached a large room finally. Much to my surprise and relief even as well, there were only 3 people in the room. My sight was immediately fixated on an older man sitting in the middle. I was almost sure he was the well-known entrepreneur Simon Cowell. I’d seen him on American Idol and the X Factor since he created those shows. It immediately made me think of Niall and Kirrily. However my job has little to do with Niall I supposed.
I knocked and entered the room, smiling out of shyness and uncertainty with little confidence. Simon Cowell rose from his seat, and so did the lady to his right who was dressed in a formal suit and a man to his left, in a more casual outfit.
“Good morning. You must be Miss Kendra Bourne. I’m Sarah Thomas. We spoke on the phone. It’s a pleasure meeting you.” She shook my hand and I smiled back at her.
I also caught sight of the empty seat to the lady’s right. I wondered if I was going to have another interviewer. Still, I couldn’t help but inwardly ask why I found myself shaking hands with the Simon Cowell.
“Beside me, Mr. Simon Cowell, your clients’ boss should Modest Management choose you as our stylist’s assistant.” He gave me a curt nod and I smiled nervously at him while Miss Thomas made introductions.
“And Mr. Paul Higgins, your future clients’ tour manager. You will hope to be working closely with them.” As she spoke, a younger woman in her twenties entered the room and took a seat next to Miss Thomas.
“And of course, Miss Lou Teasdale. You will be her assistant.”
They proceeded to ask me about why I wanted to take up this job, how I can make myself useful, why I decided to work for the fashion design and styling industry, what I think about working long hours and traveling all over the world, and why they should pick me as Miss Teasdale’s assistant. That took around half an hour and I gradually felt that the air became less stiff and I grew more natural and casual in the conversation.
“Very well, Miss Bourne.” Miss Thomas tidied up her documents and exchanged glances with the interview panel people. “We are pleased to offer you the job of our stylist’s assistant. As agreed, your job will start next month. Yes.” She pointed to the calendar.
I felt a smile grew on my face as I enthusiastically said yes to the offer and thanked them for accepting my application. My first job interview couldn’t have gone better and I was going to be forever thankful for this.
After discussing salary and days off and et cetera, they stood and led me to another room down the corridor where distinct laughs were heard. Apparently we had company.
