—THE NEXT DAY, THE REMAINDER OF US TRAVELLED TO THE INNER CITY WHERE THE IMPS TOOK OVER.

I walked beside Din, my gloved fingers brushing his every now and then. He would sometimes lock fingers with me but he kept it casual. The child was by his right side, cooing and looking out across the lava flats.

Memories of my first time here came back to me, making my head hurt and anger surged through my body. I wanted to kill that older man...that doctor...all of the Imperial scum that plagued this planet. Flashes of Doctor Pershing and Captain Noavik plagued my mind, Noavik's accented voice sending chills down my arms. I know he left before Din came to rescue me and the kid, but I remembered his twisted smile as he plunged that syringe into my neck. I remembered screaming and writhing in that chair as the control serum flooded my veins and fought to take over.

I wasn't shaken out of my thought until Greef drew his blaster and shot the hunters he was with. I drew both of my lightsabers and ignited them, glaring daggers at the man in front of me.

"Hear me out!" Greef shouted, particularly at me as I advanced forward.

"Ace, don't!" Din called after me and grabbed my arm to pull me back to him. My lightsaber blade buzzed against his beskar.

"Talk, now!" Cara demanded, her body just as tense.

"Look, the truth is, yes, we were going to kill you and Asa the  take the kid for ourselves! But after last night...After the kid saved my life, I couldn't go through with it."

"So what's your plan now? Con us again and turn all of us over to those filthy Imps?" I snapped at him, the Dark flooding every ounce of my body.

"No, we work together and stop them once and for all. For this to work, we'll need to make it seem genuine."

I glanced to Din, his gaze set on the child between us. The kid cooed at him, tilting his little head to the side as if to question what was going on. I sheathed my lightsabers and walked forward toward Greef, the man taking a couple steps back when I got closer.

Kill him and leave...

He doesn't deserve to live. Not after what he's done to you.

Do it...DO IT NOW...

No.... That's not who I am anymore. You're dead and gone!

"What's your plan then?" I asked him, sensing that others were surprised that I would help the man who could be my downfall.

"We go in, kill the Client, and then clean up the streets after that. If we're to do this right, we need to bring the Child."

"Absolutely not." Din spoke up as he stepped to be beside me.

"It's our only option, Mando!"

"No, it's not. Kuiil and I will take the kid back to the Crest. You, Mando, and Cara go in with the empty pod. As far as I remember from my last experience, that Imp who wanted me dead only had a small squad or platoon of troopers. The likelihood of you three being overwhelmed is slim." I planned aloud and tapped the hilt of my lightsaber to my chin.

"It could work?" Cara said half heartedly and shrugged her shoulders.

"Look, I know it's not a solid plan. For all we know we could fail; I'd die here; and....the kid would be taken. But we need to have faith, just this once."

I glanced to Din, the Mandalorian staring back before shaking his head at me. For a moment, I thought he was going to speak of his own plan, but instead he opened the kid's pod and gestured for me to grab him. I did as he wanted and handed him to Kuiil.

"Protect them." He said and walked toward me. "And...we will need one of your lightsabers though so we can convince the Client you're dead."

"I can tell him I killed her? What were you? A Rebel spy? A person of sabotage?" Cara listed with a playful smirk, making me look away with guilt since she still didn't know the truth. "We'll figure something out."

I nodded and unclipped one of my lightsabers to hand to Din. For a moment, our fingers brushed and he looked down at the weapon for a moment.

"You know, I'm not very good at goodbyes." I started to mutter to him but Din shook his head.

"No goodbyes. I'll see you soon, all right?"

I glanced to Cara and Greef who were exchanging in silent conversation about the plan and making up their cover story.

"I better. If not, I'll personally drag your spirit through the Force back to me and shove into that beskar of yours."

"Aren't you charming?" He said with a teasing tone before leaning his helmet against my forehead. I closed my eyes as I felt the cool metal against my hot skin, a feeling of peace washing over me as I savored Din's touch.

"See you soon, Din." I whispered to him as I stepped away, letting go of my lightsaber and walking to where Kuiil was.

I hopped up on the bluurg he rode on and we were off, leaving our friends behind us and bringing the child to safety.

A/N: hey guys! i am so so sorry for the long wait for this chapter!!!! my motivation had been sucked from me because working in retail depleted my soul of any feelings, but now that i have some motivation, i am going to try to finish writing season one, do a couple filler chapters, then start season two and the book of boba fett (only the episodes where mando comes in). i would also like to say that THIS IS ME TRYING will be getting a sequel that takes place during episodes 7-9 (it will not follow them completely). i don't want to say too much about it because SPOILERS but y'all ain't ready for that sequel >:)

and lastly, i want to recast cara dune and possibly change asa's face claim. there's a lot of controversy surrounding gina carano and i know that has effected the fandom's view of her. as for asa's face claim, i have no problem with amelia rose blaire and love her, but i have been thinking about replacing her face claim with these three:

1) anne hathaway (2) emilia clarke (3) anya chalotra

feel free to comment which one you'd like to see and leave suggestions for a recast for cara dune ;)

anyway, that's all for now! i hope you guys enjoy this chapter and i'll see ya soon!
