—"IT'S OVER. WE WON."Greef helped Asa stand up from where she had been laid, the woman forcing her eyes open to see the smoking wreckage of Moff Gideon's ship and the dead bodies of stormtroopers.
"What'd I miss?"
"Not much, just Mando taking down Moff Gideon's fighter."
Asa's eyes widened as she looked around to find the Mandalorian, but he was nowhere to be seen. Instead, she was met with Cara's gaze who seemed to have calmed down. She didn't speak to her, but she did give a nod and walked into the town to start gathering people to clear out the bodies and rubble.
Greef let go of Asa once she regained her composure and looked overhead, seeing the Crest fly past them and to another clearing to land. Once it did, the side hatch opened and Din walked out, the Child still in the satchel. Asa started to walk toward them before going into an all out sprint, throwing herself as Din and wrapping her arms around him. He did the same, holding her close and taking in her presence.
They stayed like that for a moment, eyes closed and their breathing slowing to a relaxed rhythm.
"Let's get going." Din said to her and pulled away. Asa nodded and glanced back to Greef, waving her hand to him before following Din onto the Crest.
The dark lighting of the ship brought back her drowsiness. The child who was in his little bag yawned and rubbed his eyes tiredly. Asa gently took him from Din and laid him down in his small hammock in the sleep compartment. She bundled him up in his blankets and the child fell asleep immediately.
Asa closed the compartment before she turned around to see Din gazing at her, his stance relaxed and she could sense his exhaustion as well.
"Want to join me in the shower?" She asked quietly and he nodded.
The two stayed in a comfortable silence as they removed their bloody and dirt-covered clothes then got in the small shower compartment. Asa quickly washed out the soap from hair and gently washed her face since her nose still throbbed.
The two got out and Asa wrapped a dark brown towel around herself. She sat down on one of the crates and gently placed her fingers on her nose, wincing from the pain of it.
"I can fix your nose." Din said to her as he dug through a crate for clean clothes.
"Please." She said tiredly as yawned a little. The bacta spray from earlier had closed up the wound on her shoulder and made the cuts on her face scab over. The bruising around her eyes was still there and she still felt exhausted.
"Okay, look at me." Din knelt down in front of her, now fully clothed. He gently reached up to place his fingers on her nose.
"Going on three, all right? One..." In one quick motion, Din put her nose back in place and Asa groaned, leaning her head against his shoulder and letting her eyes close. She felt him place his hands on her shoulders and helped her sit up.
"Get some clothes on and go to sleep. You need it."
Asa nodded and let Din kiss her softly. She caressed his face and pulled him close. When he pulled away, he gave her a soft smile and walked over to where his beskar was. Asa turned to grab the large long sleeve shirt Din had set out and pulled it on, sighing in relief as she felt the soft material against her skin.
She walked over to where her small makeshift bed that was by the crates, laying down and burying herself under the warm blankets as the exhaustion from that day took over.
Din soon joined her, his arm wrapping around her waist and she draped her arm over his shoulder. He rested his forehead on her chest, inhaling the sweet smell of the soap she used.
In this relaxed peace, Din finally felt whole. After all these years of never letting anyone close or getting to know him, the Mandalorian can finally say that he felt like he was home.
As broken and messed up as he was, Din was glad he found his other half someone like him. Asa was still finding her way back to the light. She was trying her best to fix what she lost with her siblings and doing her best to be a parental figure to the kid.
Din smiled as he inhaled deeply, the feeling of Asa's fingers in his hair lulling him to sleep.
"Ace...."
"Hm?"
Her voice was barely audible from being exhausted, but the way it sounded made him melt.
"I love you."
She shifted to made him look up at her, her lips finding his and her fingers gently clutched his curls.
"I know."
Din smiled and pulled her into a kiss, this time being more passionate and heated.
Asa Skywalker was many things. To many, she was an evil maniacal killer by the name of Darth Axcia. To the few who knew her, she was a kind, gentle woman who needed help.
Din counted himself lucky to be the one she chose to trust with her life, and he wouldn't trade what he has now for anything else....
