Luke

My mood instantly plummeted as I moved further and further away from Calum, and once he was fully out of sight my impulses started to kick in.

My craving and hunger for somebody like me had reached its maximum and I no longer had a mind which was thinking cute and flirty.

Images of blood and darkness flashed repeatedly in my mind, proving that I really wasn't an average teenager at all.

I squeezed my eyes shut, trying to persuade myself that this wasn't what I wanted and I was strong enough to hold out, but it was all in vein as slowly my pupils dilated and my vision became red.

This need was stronger than any other; it was supposed to be of second nature to me to be this way.

I stood, trembling with the overpowering feeling of violence, in the barely lit alleyway.

Maybe if no one passed through I would have been okay, but the universe was obviously against me.

Only a minute or two later, a red headed boy stumbled drunkenly into my path, his speech slurred as he let out a tone deaf "a'ight?"

Something deep down inside of me must have hesitated; I refuse to believe that I would've brought this life onto him so willingly.

My heart was not the part of me which was in control however, as quickly I had him pressed against the rough, graffitied fence.

My lips touched his neck, my cold breath chilling the boy to the spine.

My teeth were on show, sharper than they ever had seemed before, and I heard a light chuckle leave the teens lips.

"It's okay," he whispered horsely, "I wanted to die anyway."

Little did he know I would be punishing him with never ending life.

My teeth needed little persuading to sink into the already paper white skin on the boys neck, the steady trickle of blood quenching my thirst better than any other liquid.

Once satisfied, I pulled away, my dark mood starting to vanish.

When I looked at what I had done, nothing I could say or do would ever allow me to forgive myself.

I backed away slowly, my eyes locked on the bright teeth marks engraved onto his body forever. I just couldn't believe they were mine.

"I'm sorry," I stammered breathlessly, "I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm-"

"It's okay." He spoke lowly, his hand now tracing over the mark on his neck. "My life had no meaning to it anyway."

"No," I muttered cautiously, looking around nervously. "You aren't dead."

"I know," he mused, a slight smile tugging at the corners of his mouth. "But I may as well use this opportunity to start a better life."

I just frowned, he didn't understand yet that my life wasn't better than his.
"I just-I cant-I'm so sorr-"

"Ok, I get it, you're sorry! But the least you could do is tell me your name, maybe even show me the ropes to this vampire stuff."

I huffed, I hadn't realised I would have to be his friend, but I decided I would try due to my monstrous mistake.

"Luke," I murmured, offering out my hand hesitantly for him to shake. He took it in his, his hand still feeling warm as the venom had not yet had time to properly take effect.

"Michael," he replied, "but you can call me Mikey if you want."

I wasn't really sure why there had been no change to his appearance yet; I had never witnessed the human to vampire change.

But as we were walking out of the alley, I hadn't expected Michael to fall onto his knees, tears stinging his eyes, and an agonising cry of pain leaving his lips.

"It hurts," he whimpered, his whole body shaking and his chest wheezing.

I cursed under my breath, thinking on the spot of the best thing to do.

I picked him up, cradling him in my arms and rushed back down the alley, knocking on the door at the very end.
I stood waiting, hoping this wouldn't be a horrible mistake.

The door creaked open, and I was met with the site of Jake, my oldest friend from when I was only one or two.

"Luke," he beamed, opening the door and ushering me into his house quickly.

I gladly rushed inside, taking a seat on the sofa and placing Michael next to me.

He was still shaking and small gasps were leaving his mouth every second or two.

"What's going on?" Jake asked, moving swiftly over to me and bending down beside me.

His eyes studied Michael, taking in the bite mark on his neck which was now oozing with purple blood. The venom was doing its job.

"I bit him," I whispered, shaking slightly myself.

Jake knew I was a vampire, he was the only person who knew and that I could trust. He stood up, fetching a cold cloth and pressing against Michaels bite mark.

He had done this for me when I had been bitten, staying with me as I had cryed and screamed through the torture.

I wanted nothing more to go back to being 14, before I had been bitten and everything was fine.

"I didn't mean to, but it just happened. I can't believe I managed to hold out for 4 years though," I ran a hand through my hair, nervous that Michael would be like this for a while.

"You're a strong boy Luke, you just need to believe it." He sat next to me and wrapped a brotherly arm around my shoulder. "It was a boy wasn't it?" He asked, looking down at me.

I nodded, I knew what he was talking about.

The likely hood of biting someone was 10 times greater if your pulse was racing.

Calum had got my pulse racing.
