after the little breakthrough with carlos we started to hang out a bit more, he was actually kind of cool, he knew how to make these little cute tricks with his gift as well.
for example he could make little fire statues of himself or other objects, even though it wasn't quite possible for me to touch his fire he still seemed happy just to have me watching.

"ok ok now watch this." he said while i sat down on his red leather couch, spinning his finger around a circle of flames began to form around him, and once he turned his hands into fists the circle created a quick wall of fire and after a matter of seconds it was gone. i guess the room was fire proof since nothing ended up burning.
"woah..." i grinned, carlos let out a chuckle before noticing his ruana slightly burning.
"dang it." he whined while trying to put out the small flame out.

i tilted my head as i watched the flame die out "does that happen often?" i asked, going more into the details of the ruana a bit burnt on the bottom.
"yeah but it's fine." he sighed.

"don't you have another one?" i asked.
"not really." he shrugged "this was the very first ruana mi mama gave me four years ago," he forced a chuckle "it was a bit too big for me but i didn't mind." he said while playing with one of the burnt strings, now it made sense on why his ruana was so short.

"well, it looks good on you." i shrugged, carlos gave me a soft smile.
"thanks." he responded quietly, and suddenly there was a knock on his door.
"who is it?" i asked following carlos towards the door, revealing camilo with a glare in his eyes, his expression suddenly changed when he noticed me behind his brothers
"que quieres?" asked carlos with a bland tone, camilo cleared his throat before shifting his gaze towards his taller twin.

"time for lunch...so uh yeah." he said, shoving his hands into his pockets and walking off downstairs.
carlos let out a sigh "do you think they'll kill me?" he asked, i chuckled.
"well let's just hope they don't" i said while placing a hand on his shoulder, carlos rolled his eyes playfully.
"sure." he shrugged.

we walked out of his room and began to make our way downstairs, i took a final glance at the balcony and noticed the velvet door next to mirabel's, no one seemed to talk about it or even go inside. i've seen mirabel sneak in once or two every week, i wasn't quite able to see what was going on inside but i guess it had nothing to do with me.

"oh hola lara!" said grandma adelina as she sat down next to oscar, talking about her own memories in brazil from old photographs she had kept.
"oi." i responded quietly as i sat down next to her, carlos looked over at his seat before locking eyes with pepa, a gloomy cloud began to form on top of her head.

before i knew it carlos had sat down next to me, i blinked before giving him a soft smile whilst julieta placed down the food.
"carlos." pepa called out making the entire room go tense.
"que." carlos asked playing with his food, the cloud on the woman's head got darker.

i looked over at mirabel, noticing her pale  expression of fear, i frowned and tried my best to follow her gaze until i spotted small cracks forming on the wall behind pepa.
"i need to go." mirabel quickly stood up from her seat and rushed back up stairs, i then looked over at carlos, he seemed to be handling stuff well.
"so um...i saw this very cute mouse today." bruno began, trying softening the room.

"oh really?" valentina asked with stars in her eyes, her father nodded.
"she had spots all over her fur!" he smiled.
"that's nice." said oscar with a soft smile.
and somehow, the entire table was happy again, completely ignoring the previous tension from before.

i looked over at camilo and noticed how he'd carefully eye me and carlos, his brows knitted together whilst his eyes examined us from top to bottom.

"camilo? aren't you eating?" asked felix with a smirk, the boy in the yellow ruana blinked while slowly blushing, quickly looking down at his food with a frown.
