we were then standing by oscar's door, carlos looking serious as ever whilst I just looked around with pursed lips.
"que quieres?" the door swang open revealing oscar in his green pyjamas, his belly slightly showing off whilst his black hair remained messy.
"hola oscar." carlos sighed "we need your help." he said while placing his hand on my shoulder, i blushed in embarrassment.oscar looked at me up and down before glaring down at carlos, as if he had committed some sort of crime.
"oh really?" asked oscar with a raised brow, carlos rolled his eyes at his cousin.
"look we need to use one of your stupid archives ok?" carlos glared back, oscar huffed and crossed his arms."what's in it for me?" he asked, carlos groaned.
"what do you want?" i asked, oscar blinked in shock by my reaction before taking his sweet time to think of an actual answer.
".......erapas." he mumbled to himself making it hard to understand what he meant.
"quê que é?" i asked, oscar blushed shyly.
"extra erapas!" he sighed, carlos shook his head.
"weren't you on a diet?" asked carlos."callate!" snapped oscar, carlos' eyes widened a bit by the sudden tone.
"sorry." oscar sighed and gestured us to follow him into the room. i blinked in confusion.
"so who's archive are you looking for?" asked oscar, his room was a giant library with never ending piles of books that seemed to be made out of green hardbacks.one door stood in the far corner, probably where his bed was, meanwhile a large circle made out of salt and sand had been formed in the middle of the room, with a small bowl of herb.
"mirabel's." said carlos leaning himself against the wall with tired eyes, i looked over at him and then at oscar who was standing on a giant ladder looking through the shelves alphabetically."why mirabel's?" he asked while sliding down with what seemed to be exactly 5 glowing books.
"because we need to see something." carlos shrugged and then glared at him "what?" he asked with a frown."none of your busy!" he hissed, carlos let out a dark chuckle.
"im going to know either way," he rolled his eyes "im the archivist." he said, i blinked and looked over at oscar who was lighting up the herbs with a small match.
"just give us memories related to abuela" carlos gave in."abuela huh?" he mumbled and stepped out of the circle of salt.
"im sorry for bringing it up-" i try to butt in.
"no it's fine lara, everyone has come to terms with abuela by now." he sighed "as shitty as it sounds." he chuckled."so..." carlos straightened his posture and stood next to me with his arms behind his back "what now?" he asked.
"well," oscar licked his finger before flipping one of the pages, suddenly the circle of salt started to glow in a strong green colour "you just tell me what memory you want." he said.me and carlos looked over at eachother, he nodded and me before looking back at his cousin.
"the moment they started not getting along i guess?" he said, oscar blinked and let out a sigh.
"your funeral." he mumbled and the book suddenly began to flip it's pages by itself until it stopped in the middle section of the book.oscar then looked over at us with his eyes slightly glowing the same green colour as the circle, gesturing us to walk inside it.
"um..." carlos gave him a weird look, oscar rolled his eyes.
"just do it you big coward!" said oscar.carlos flipped him off before grabbing onto my wrist, gently pulling me with him towards the circle, i took a deep breath and closed my eyes.
"dios mio." carlos mumbled, i quickly opened my eyes and looked at him before noticing the scene happening in front of us.right there, stood mirabel within a crowd of villagers whilst the rest of her family took a family picture, without her.
i blinked and took a few steps closer to her, her face said it all. all of the hatred, all of the depressive thoughts and anxieties that ran through her head, all of the pieces of her heart shattering inside her chest. she was heartbroken.
