"SAKIKO!" Mikey shouted at the top of his lungs.
Everything happened so fast. One second she was standing on the edge, the next second she was pushed off the building. Her body was falling backward, slowly disappearing in the darkness. Mikey's body immediately reacted. He dashed toward the edge full speed. There was no way he would lose. There was no way she would die. She couldn't. It was not supposed to end like that. They just finally got together, it couldn't end before it had even started. It couldn't. He told Satohiko he would protect her. He told her he would protect her. He could not fail. He promised her it would be okay.
Baji dashed as well toward the edge. He was closer to her. He reached out to her. He was so close but too late. He touched the tips of his fingers but he failed to catch her. He had her at the tips of his fingers, but he was too late. When he reached the edge, she was already out of reach. Baji watched, livid and devasted, as Sakiko was falling further and further. He was so close. He almost got her. But he failed.
Sakiko's body was falling backward. She could feel nothing but the void behind her. She could feel nothing but the nothingness behind her. She could feel nothing but the air brushing against her skin. The bright light was getting bigger and bigger. It was time. She had reached the end of the line. It was all over. Embracing death as an old friend, Sakiko softly smiled. At least, she would be reunited with her parents now.
But then it stopped.
Everything stopped. The light stopped shining. This feeling of nothingness stopped. The descent stopped. Instead, she felt a hand holding her wrist tight, preventing her to fall. Sakiko was dangling in the void. Confused, she looked her. Her eyes widened.
"I got you!" Mikey exclaimed. "I got you, Saki-chin!"
"Manjiro...," she breathed.
Mikey was tightly holding her wrist with both his hands. He was not standing on the edge. He was not even on the rooftop. He was, too, hanging in the void upsidedown. But Takemichi was holding onto his ankles, preventing him to fall. When Mikey saw Baji failing to catch Sakiko, he did not think twice. He dived and jumped out of the building, catching Sakiko. Just after, he felt Takemichi's hands gripping his ankles so he wouldn't fall further.
Mikey didn't think, he just acted. There was no way he would lose Sakiko. No way. He wasn't ready to let her go. He would never be.
"Don't worry, I got you!" Mikey cried out. "I'm gonna get you up there, don't worry!"
Sakiko stared at Mikey, in utter shock. He jumped too. He jumped to catch her. He caught her. He saved her. But he was also falling. And Takemichi was obviously struggling to hold them both. And the Hanagaki boy risked falling to. Half his body was bent over the edge. And with the weight of both Mikey and Sakiko, there was a high-risk Takemichi would be dragged in the fall. He could only save one.
"You're falling too...," she breathed.
"It's okay," Mikey smiled. "It's alright,"
Mikey tighten his grip around her wrist, making sure she wouldn't wall. Tears were threatening to fall from his eyes. He had never been so scared in his life. Never he had ever dreaded so much. It was actually killing him from the inside, he felt like he was going crazy. When he saw her falling, he felt like dying himself. Now he couldn't hold his emotion anymore. He had no emotional strength left. He needed to let the tears out. He thought he lost her. He thought it was over.
"You'll fall too...," Sakiko said. "If you don't let me g-"
"Don't you dare end this sentence!" Mikey shouted. Sakiko stared at him. "I told you I'm gonna get you up there!"
