It was the next day when Sakusa found out what exactly was going on. Kirika bounded up to him and ushered him into their empty classroom first thing in the morning with a distressed look on her face. Sakusa perched on one of the desks whilst Kirika stood in front of him.

Sakusa thought she looked beautiful today, as per usual. Her hair was fully down and curled, framing her perfect face. Even with that frown, Sakusa thought she was the most beautiful girl in the world.

"Sakusa we have a huge problem," the girl sighed, massaging her temples.

"What is it?" Sakusa mumbled sleepily, still not really awake.

"You remember that boy from yesterday? He told everyone that we were dating to get back at us. He even made up some weirdly intricate rumours about how he caught us making out in the courtyard." Kirika explained, her lips pressed into a thin line.

It took Sakusa a moment for that information to click into place, but as soon as it did he was flushing all the way down to his neck before a wave of panic washed over him.

"What?" He squeaked out, trying to cover how high his voice went by clearing his throat.

"What do we do?" Kirika asked, moving closer and lowering her voice as a few classmates began to filter into the classroom.

"Let's just fake it until it all blows over, then we can pretend to break up," Sakusa whispered, running his hand through his curls in exasperation. "If that's okay with you of course," he added.

"Are you sure?" She asked. Sakusa nodded.

"Okay yeah, let's do that." Kirika agreed, her chestnut brown eyes meeting his dark ones. "Let's meet up after clubs and discuss what we should do. like a contract y'know?" She flashed an award-winning smile before moving to sit in her own seat just as the bell for the first period went.

Sakusa couldn't help but feel giddy. This was an odd situation to be in, but if it meant acting like a couple with his long-term crush then he was all for it. He took his own seat on the other side of the classroom, a small smile playing on his lips underneath his usual white mask.

Lunchtime took way too long to come around. Sakusa was uncharacteristically happy as he walked over to his 'girlfriend' as she spoke to her friends, waiting nearby for her to finish her conversation.

Komori found him first before he could speak to her though. For the first time this week, Komori had been on time for lunch and it was the only time Sakusa did not want to see him.

"Kiyoomi, is it true?" He yelled as he bounded into the classroom, having run from his own.

"Shut up, you're too loud. What are you talking about?" Sakusa said blankly, moving his gaze from Kirika to his cousin.

"Are you dating Uzume Kirika? I obviously didn't believe it because it's you we're talking about, but I thought that I should double-check just in case..." Komori rambled, irking Sakusa. neither of them noticed said girl approaching them until she tapped Sakusa lightly on the arm.

"Oh my God... you've been dating her all this time, and you didn't tell me?" Komori asked in mock offence.

"It was a secret," they both said at the same time.

Thank god they both thought the same thing, they would've been in deep trouble if they didn't.

"Kiyoomi, I'm literally your cousin, I thought we agreed to never keep secrets from each other."

"No, you agreed to that and I told you to shut up and stay out of my business." The blank look never once left Sakusa's face.

"Whatever" Komori scoffed, turning to leave, murmuring something about how he couldn't believe sakusa got a girlfriend before him.

"Sorry about him," Sakusa sighed turning to face kirika as he once again leaned on the table behind him.

"Don't worry about it, lots of people will be talking about it. Two of the most popular second years are in a 'relationship'." kirika said, moving her hair over her shoulder.

"What do you mean two? you're the one who's popular" Sakusa questioned, his eyebrows furrowed.

Kirika gave him an incredulous look. "You can't be serious Sakusa... you're the ace of the volleyball team, and you're good-looking. Do you not know how many girls talk about you?"

'She thinks I'm good-looking.'

That was the only thing he heard. The girl he'd liked for a year now thought he was good-looking.

For the first time in forever, Sakusa Kiyoomi couldn't wait for volleyball practice to finish.

He knew that he was way too excited for a fake relationship, but the thought of spending time with Kirika was exciting to him. Especially since he rarely interacted with anyone other than his cousin and volleyball team.

Kirika was waiting for him outside the gym just like she promised, AirPods shoved in her ears as she read a book to pass the time, seemingly immersed in the pages.

"Uzume," Sakusa called tapping her shoulder to get her attention, stepping in front of her.

"practice is finished?" She took the AirPods out of her ears, securing them back in their case before turning to him.

Sakusa nodded, busying himself with finding a mask in his bag. He huffed in annoyance when he couldn't find one, about to suggest that they head over to the convenience store when the girl before him took out a fresh one from her bag, still in the plastic packaging and handed it to him, shoving the book she was reading haphazardly into the bag as she did so.

And he thought he couldn't possibly like her any more than he already did.
