Sage Graves chuckled at her best friend's antics before tilting her head back up to the wide computer screen on the desk in front of her.
"Sorry, guys," said Sage into the microphone of her headset. "I was just talking to a friend about that test I completely flunked. We're gonna get right back to the game as soon as Tina sets the lobby."
As she adjusted the game's volume, her chat flooded with comments upon comments, most of which ranted about Biology being their worst nightmare.
She snickered quietly. "Not to flex but Biology is my best subject. Probably why I'm majoring in Physiotherapy... but you already knew that."
Sage had a tendency to subconsciously fill the silence even if it meant resorting to unnecessary rambling. Honestly, it was a skill that somehow complimented her as a reaction channel. And although she rarely played anything on her channel, Among Us was one of the only games she enjoyed recording.
She had made a popular friend in the gaming community sometime ago: TinaKitten. The videos she made with her, and just of the game in general, landed her a whole new fanbase and a couple million subscribers.
"You know I usually play with you guys so I'm pretty nervous about playing with Tina's gang." She turned to her screen only to laugh at the manner they described Tina's friends.
Username 1 - Salad gang? I'd be more nervous to play with a litter of kittens.
Username 2 - my tiddiessense a soon to be daddy corpse stan
Username 3 - Don't be! They're the sweetest people ever
She snorted to herself after typing in the code and clicking join. "Daddy Corpse?"
"Well, hello to you too."
The sudden baritone voice sent a slow chill down Sage's spine. She didn't mean to appear so stunned on camera but another thing she had trouble controlling was her facial expressions.
Different voices flooding quickly into her red ears held no speed to the way her chat exploded. The only high-pitched laugh she was able to distinguish amongst the many others belonged to Tina.
"Guys, this is Sage," said Tina after subduing her giggles. "She's my friend so be nice."
"You hear that daddy Corpse?" yelled an Irish man.
The low chuckle reverberating deep against her eardrum drowned every other person's audio.
"Oh, no! You guys are scaring her!" interrupted the sweet voice of a girl. "Everybody shut up."
And everybody did.
"Hi, Sage!" said the same girl. "I'm brooke. That guy with the devil's voice is-" she broke into a chuckle, "Corpse."
Sage quickly recovered herself to respond, "Gosh, I'm sorry about that. Really. I was just reading someone's chat and-"
Another enthusiastic girl broke in, "Don't worry about it. He gets that kinda attention a lot and I mean a lot. Rae here, by the way."
A red little space ranger, as Elijah had put it, began to circle her banana coloured one.
"Yeah, we're more like side characters everytime a new person hears Corpse," the Irish man joked and then introduced himself as Jack.
"Guys..."
There went the chills again.
Sage wondered if her next question would sound stupid and offensive but voiced it anyway. "Um, is 'Corpse' really your birth name?"
"No," responded the only man without a facecam. "Just a username I go by."
"Oh, okay."
The topic quickly shifted to more relevant matters and her embarrassing statement was soon forgotten.
If Sage were being honest, she was a little shy of the peculiar guy. Perhaps it had to do with his blank portfolio or his freakishly grave voice.
Anyhow, he was intimidating.
Until the game started.
And the lot spent 5 minutes watching him fail card swipe.
