A War of Worlds

Chapter Five of Book One

“Are you going to be alright Noble?” Algebra asked.

“Yes dear. I think so. But I will be unable to fly for a while so I cannot help you find your friend.”Nobelium replied.

His wing was bent and had a hole right through the middle of it so you could see the other side but with blood gushing out from time to time.

The children and creatures had ran from their last camping site. They had found an open area that had fallen logs laying on the floor. Algebra took over to caring to Nobelium. She had found the bullet still stuck where the hole was. She tried to pull it out while he was asleep but then stopped immediately when she saw him to start wince.

“It will not work if you put so much force in it.” Sina advised.

Algebra nodded in agreement and tried to pull the bullet more gently. This time, Nobelium was not awaken with pain.

“Thank you.” Algebra patted the snow tiger on the head.

Sina lay down next to Algebra and put her head down on Algebra's lap.

“I used to think humans were vicious creatures.” Sina softly said that Algebra almost didn't catch it.

“Like Juru, I had a sibling. He was a Deserttiger. He had disappeared without an explanation. But before he disappeared, he had told me not to ever befriend humans. Thank you though, Algebra. And your friends too. You have shown me that not all humans are vicious.” And with that said, she slowly closed her eyes.

Algebra could feel the tiger breathing steadily on her lap. She took out the tiger brooch which represented Sina, but maybe it was Sina's brother it was supposed to represent.

“Keep it dear.” Nobel said softly, “Keep all the brooches you find during your trip. It will come in handy.”

“I will.” Algebra mouthed to the Khatimon hawk.”

She then gently put Sina's head off from her lap and down on the ground and kissed the small hawk on the forehead and then went to sleep near the fire pit.

Algebra was woken up with nudge.

“What?” she said rubbing her eyes.

“C'mon. We're starting our trip to Krypton's home.” Selk said.

“Krypton? How did you find out where he lived?” she asked since she was half asleep.

“While you were asleep Noble was awake for 'bout half an hour. He still remembered where Krypton was and Juru went back to the sky and confirmed it.”

“Okay then.” Algebra sighed still half asleep.

“Hey, are you okay?” Selk crouched down next to his friend and locked eyes with her.

She turned away quickly, “I may still be tired.”

Selk picked up Algebra. She couldn't help putting a shocked face on.

“Your tired right?” Selk chuckled at her reaction, “Then I'll just carry you until you're fully awake.”

Algebra paused before she sighed and nodded slowly. She closed her eyes and put her arms around his neck.

“How queer...”Algebra thought, “the last time he carried me like this was when we first met.”

That one day in 2nd grade, when Selk had seen Algebra crying. She was crying because the other children had thought she was weird; though not anymore. Selk had just moved there and didn't know anybody. When he saw a little girl crying in the corner, he just picked her up like a cat. She was quite surprised, but he just grinned at Algebra and said, “A girl shouldn't cry while ruining those beautiful green eyes.”
