Sans hesitantly came downstairs as Papyrus happily milled around the house, packing. He wasn't sure how he was going to tell Papyrus. How was he going to tell Papyrus that he was staying Underground? He knew it would upset the younger, but he also knew that with the power of the C.O.R.E within him, he was dangerous as well as in danger. Humans were a curious species. Curiosity and determination didn't mix. He knew that from experience. If humans found out a out these overwhelming abilities, they would try and trap him, use it for their own gain. While he was positive he could defend himself, if his family and friends got involved, could he save them? He had to stay down here. Someone had to keep an eye on the actual C.O.R.E, after all. Besides, he had the company of his nonexistent father as well. He wouldn't be lonely. "heya pap, can we talk?" Pap stopped as he was about to yet the couch out of the door. "YES BROTHER?" Sans paused and figited. "i... can't come with you to the surface, i'd only put you in danger.." He said slowly. Papyrus smile fell. "I... I KNOW.."

It seemed that Papyrus had much the same thoughts when he heard the king say the barrier was broken. He'd still hoped that maybe things could work out, but he knew that Sans was right. Didn't mean he had to like it though. Papyrus was still very upset that Sans couldn't enjoy the Surface like everyone else. "it'll be ok, bud. we can always visit and text.. i'll be ok here." Sans promised as they stood outside the barrier. Papyrus embraced Sans. "ARE YOU SURE..? MAYBE THE HUMANS WILL LEAVE US ALONE.." Sans shook his head. "i can't take that chance, pap. to many unknown variables. i love you pap, ya know that, right?" Papyrus hugged tighter. "I LOVE YOU AS WELL BROTHER.. I'LL BE SURE IT VISIT AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE!" Sans nodded. "just don't forget to live your life up there too. have fun."
"I... WILL TRY.." Papyrus reluctantly agreed. He let go. "i'll see you around, k buddy?" Papyrus nodded. "CAN I HEAR ONE OF YOUR REDICULOUS PUNS BEFORE WE PART?" Sans gave a strained chuckle. "you buder visit with pictures. i wanna see the good times." Sans walked towards the Underground as Pap went down the mountain.

"I'm sorry you can't go to the surface." Sans shrugged at the figure of Gaster. "i've seen it hundreds of times. it's nothing special.." No it wasn't the surface he'd miss. It was the memories with Papyrus that he'd miss out on. And Tori and Asgore and Alphys and Undyne..  he sighed. "What will you do now?" Gaster asked. "i'll continue to practice and perfect the c.o.r.e power and try to not die." Sans replied with a shrug. "who knows, maybe with this power i can rip you out off the void." The incorpral being shivered. "That sounds unnecessarily violent."
"it'll be like getting shot up with determination, you'll love it." Sans joked bitterly. "You're still mad about that?! I apologized!"
"yes and i don't care that you apologized, it wasn't a fun experience. it only counts that you join in on the experience yourself before i actually forgive you." Gaster would have crossed his arms if he had any. "Ugh. Very well, fair enough.." He grumbled.
