Do you know what it's like to be torn apart, into fine, powdery dust, then pieced back together again because your soul refused to die? Sans did. It wasn't a fun feeling. He didn't want to get up. He felt sick, exhausted, and full of unimaginable power. Power that theoretically no monster should ever be able to handle. But he was pretty sure he was containing it now. Other than feeling like crap, he was fine. With black residue from the blast covering him from head to toe. The entire inside of the C.O.R.E was in similar condition, some of the walls melted, doors completely gone, the control consol was a wreck. With a groan, Sans unceremoniously flipped himself onto his stomach and tried to pick himself up. The sick feeling came back 10 fold and he was instead emptying his insides onto the floor. If it hadn't been for the fact that the color kept changing and he'd SURVIVED a DEADLY blast, he wouldn't have thought anything was wrong except maybe the monster flu. It was fairly common for a skeleton to catch after all. Add the other factors though, Sans knew something was wrong with him.

Sans made it to Hotland in a flash. His usual abilities still worked at least, but something felt off about them. About his magic. It seemed the initial barrier worked, there was no trace of the residue in Hotland, though if he could teleport out of there, that meant the barrier wouldn't have lasted any longer. He felt unstable and uncoordinated as he stumbled into the lab. He had no idea how he'd managed to get this far in his condition. After flopping into the elevator and pressing the button for True Lab, his legs finally caved and he just laid on the floor of the lab. When the Amalgamates came to investigate, Sans just waved. "don't mind me, i'm just lying around..." He glanced at them. "help me..?" So Sans was dragged through the True Lab and to a bed. "can ya get me a soul scanner? and... maybe some c.o.r.e equipment, if ya know where al keeps that stuff?" If what he thought happened really happened, a soul scanner might not be enough.. the Amalgamates were helpful though, retrieving what he needed. The probably watch Alphys work since there's nothing to do around here.

Sans was happy to throw the melted beings a bone for helping him by quite literally throwing a bone or multiple for them to amuse themselves with. "ok.. time to see.." He whispered, scared. His bone attacks had seemed normal enough, but still... with a pulling motion, he summoned his soul. It... looked like the C.O.R.E, it was still in it's usual upside-down heart shape, but it's color was shifting color constantly, just like the C.O.R.E. "so it's true... i absorbed it.." How? How could he possibly have absorbed such large and unpredictable amounts of power? Sans used the C.O.R.E's Supply Unit Tester to make sure he was stable. For the most part he was, the C.O.R.E energy was adjusting quickly to its new 'host', which was likely why he felt awful. "great." He laid back on the bed. "i'm a walking power source." He disconnected the machine from his soul, deciding that sleeping it off would probably be his best course of action. He could check himself again when he woke up, then I'd he was still stable, pretend nothing happened and unbar the door to Old Home.

The thing about that plan was... when Sans had more or less 'died' his magic faded. The doors to Old Home were no longer barred, allowing a certain group of monsters to leave after the initial blast and find any trace of the oldest skeleton. Alphys told Undyne and Papyrus that Sans was probably not even dust anymore, realistically speaking, but Papyrus refused to believe it. That what lead to this expedition, well that and someone had to see if it was safe for the rest of the kingdom. So far that was promising. Snowdin was untouched, as was Waterfall. Even Hotland. "I-it worked.. th-the barrier worked.." Alphys stammered. They were forced to take the long way around. Nothing had power... nothing that Sans wasn't touching, anyway. That meant that Undyne and Papyrus had to force the lab open to get around to the C.O.R.E. Papyrus wished he'd never saw when they forced the door to the C.O.R.E open. The inside was black everywhere and clung to their footwear. "S-Sans..?" Papyrus voice wavered. The deeper they got into the facility, the less likely he'd seemed to survive. That scared Papyrus. The walls deeper in looked partially melted, the doors decintegrated. Sans was- "oh. hey guys, didn't think you'd gotten here so quickly, then yet, i did sleep longer than i expected... heh.."- alive?

It was weird. Sans KNEW they were in the C.O.R.E. He felt it. So he teleported there to see who it was. He should have known that they'd find a way out. It WAS Undyne, Papyrus, and Alphys. The three stared dumbfounded at Sans. "B-brother..?" Sans gave a strained grin. He was still feeling a bit nauseous, but it was nowhere near as bad as it was when he first woke up. "H-how d-did you kn-know what t-to do?" Alphys stammered while Undyne marched up, grabbing his jacket. "HOW ARE YOU ALIVE!? HAVE YOU SEEN THE THE STATE OF THIS PLACE!?" She yelled, shaking the skeleton. Sans was quick to pull away so he wouldn't throw up on her, even if she deserved it. He finished, wiping away access magic and C.O.R.E energy? From his teeth. "i can explain.."
