"Can you believe it Carol? I mean, his music has been everyone's favorite for ten years, and now this is what he turns out to be?"
"Well, I don't know, Dave, it's as much as the other guys' fault as it is John's."
"True. I just can't believe he would do such a thing. More on John Laurens later, but now, please enjoy music from another rising artist, T-Jeff-"
"Could you turn off the radio, please?" I ask the taxi driver. He nods and turns it off, not saying anything more. I slump back in my seat.
This was terrible, everything was spiraling out of control. Alex hasn't talked to me since the post blew up, and now I was on my way to go see him. I had to see him. I had to make sure he was okay after what happened.
I pull my hood a little more over my face as I exit the cab, walking up to Alex's door. I take a deep breath and knock on it. I hear some shuffling and then see the door open just a tiny bit.
"Alexander isn't here right now if that's who you're looking for."
Though the voice said he wasn't there, it was very clear that it was Alex saying it.
"Alex, please, it's me, John." I say.
He hesitates but lets me into the house, closing the door quickly behind me. I take off my hood and he looks at me with concern.
"What are you doing here? I thought you couldn't come see me? Does anyone know that you're here? If someone finds out, it's going to be really bad for your caree-"
I shut him up by pulling him into a kiss. I couldn't stand not seeing him these past few days, especially not since he was the whole reason I came to New York.
He pushes me away gently, still looking concerned but now confused as well.
"John, what are you doing here?" He repeats.
"I.. I'm sorry. I just had to come and see you." I sigh softly and take a step away from him. "How are you doing after this whole thing?"
He crosses his arms. "Not so great. Eliza broke off our engagement, everywhere I go I swear people are glaring at me. I don't know what I'm going to do." He says.
I frown. "I'm sorry about you and Eliza.. I know how much she meant to you.."
"Well, clearly she didn't mean enough to me. I mean, I went and cheated on her, who does that?" He asks, groaning and sitting on his couch. "I knew I would get caught, why did I continue with the lies and such?"
I was now standing kind of in front of him, biting my lip. "Well.. It's not just your fault, Alex. I don't know why I kept indulging in it. I knew you were already taken, and I just.. I didn't stop.. And now you're getting hate for it.."
"Me? You're the one whose name is being dragged right now. I probably messed up your whole career, and before you finished your album, too."
"No, Alex, my manager is doing what she can to fix it, but you lost your relationship with Eliza.."
He sits back in his couch and sighs. "You know, we both messed up. And now we have to deal with the consequences." There's a moment of silence between us as he shakes his head. "So what do we do now?"
"I can't just stay away from you Alex, I- You're my best friend, you mean everything to me." I explain, stopping myself from saying too much. He just got out of a relationship, what kind of idiot tells their crush how they feel right after they get out of a relationship?
"But if you don't stay away from me, you risk tanking your career." He says. "I can't let you choose me over your career, you've worked too hard for this."
