Chapter 2
San woke up feeling tired. They had just moved to a new town because of his father's job. He looked around his room, filled with random photographs he'd taken. He loved photography, especially capturing landscapes, animals, and other scenes—though he rarely photographed people. Or rather, he didn't like to. A ding from his phone broke the silence; his best friend and cousin had texted him to get ready.
San got up, washed up, and chose a white button-up shirt paired with white jeans. After brushing his hair, he went downstairs for breakfast, greeting his dad and stepmother. His father looked up from his newspaper.
"So, have you heard back from any of the universities you applied to?" His father was a humble, kind man—maybe too much so.
"Yeah, I think I'll go with XXXX University," he replied, taking a bite of his French toast.
He noticed his stepmother watching him with a strange, almost disgusted look. San often wondered why his father had married someone like her, but he guessed it was because she'd looked sweet and innocent. She was good at putting on a convincing act. For his father's sake, San stayed quiet whenever she yelled at him or even broke his things. It was no secret that she wanted their family business and lands to go to her son, Jeong-in—nicknamed I.N. I.N., thankfully, was nothing like his mother. A kindhearted guy, he wanted to become a singer, something his mother strongly opposed. That pretty much summed up the basics of San's life.
San and I.N. said their goodbyes and left the house together.
"Let's go and start our first day!" I.N. smiled.
"Yeah, let's do that," San said as he spotted Seonghwa's car pulling up.
They climbed in, greeting Seonghwa and his boyfriend, Hongjoong.
"Hello, San. Hi, I.N. How are you guys?" Hongjoong asked as they drove to school.
They chatted on the way, learning more about the school and how things worked there. When they arrived, San and I.N. headed to the office to pick up their schedules and campus maps. Seonghwa and Hongjoong gave them a quick tour until the bell rang. Saying their goodbyes, they headed to their separate classes.
San's first class was art, but on his way, he accidentally bumped into someone who seemed to be in a hurry.
"ACK!" the guy squeaked, making San giggle a little at the high-pitched sound.
"Oh, I'm sorry! I was in a rush and wasn't paying attention," the guy said.
"It's okay! You're the one who got hurt. Here, let me help," San offered, bending down to help pick up the guy's belongings.
As he handed over the scattered papers, San caught a glimpse of a beautiful sketch: a black-and-white drawing of a rainy park.
Finally looking up, San got a good look at the guy. He felt his heart skip a beat. The guy was flawless, with clear skin, perfect eyes, and a mole on his lip that only seemed to add to his charm.
'His lips look so pretty,' San thought, then quickly corrected himself. 'Wait, San, get a grip!'
"Thank you," the guy said, flashing a quick smile before disappearing down the hallway, leaving San standing there by the lockers.
As he walked to class, San smiled. 'He has the same hair as me,' he thought.
