Chapter 22
Wooyoung lay awake in San's arms, softly caressing the older man's hair. He knew deep down that he could never move on from San. He loved him too much—more than he could even explain. It worried him. Maybe it would be safer to push him away, to pretend he didn't have any feelings for San. But Wooyoung was selfish. Sometimes, it wasn't a crime to be selfish. However, if his selfishness brought danger to San, he would let him go.
With a heavy heart, Wooyoung grabbed a pen and paper, his hand trembling as he began to write a letter once again. He poured his feelings onto the page, confessing his love for San and explaining that, in order to protect him, he needed to sever their ties, even if only temporarily. Tears streamed down Wooyoung's face as he wrote each word, the weight of his emotions almost unbearable.
San would be heartbroken. Wooyoung knew that. But it was the only way to keep him safe. He couldn't allow his loved ones to get caught in the dangerous path he was on.
After finishing the letter, Wooyoung folded it carefully and placed it on San's bedside table. He hoped that one day, when everything was over, they could be together again.
With a determined look in his eyes, Wooyoung made up his mind. He packed his bags quietly, leaving behind only a brief, cryptic note for his colleagues at the office. The note explained that he needed some time alone to clear his mind, and he urged them not to worry or try to find him.
Wooyoung went to his garage and started the new car he bought. One with no clues or hints that would lead to him. One that no one knows of. He looked at the house once more and started to drive off.
It was a cloudy day. Wooyoung looked straight ahead as he drove. His head full of regret but hopefully once this was done, San would take him back. He knows he hurt San once again. It's funny how these events keep repeating. But if he lost San, he would not be able to live anymore. Then he would not fulfil his promise to his parents.
He finally arrived at the cottage deep in the woods far away from the center of the city. It was the perfect place to be "off the map" where no one could track him. There, he could dedicate his focus entirely to bringing down the person responsible for his parents' death.
Without wasting anytime, Wooyoung got off the car and unloaded his suitcase. He made some coffee and started going through the documents that heeseung had sent him.
Days turned into weeks as Wooyoung immersed himself in the case. He went through old police reports, looked at the camera footages, and even questioned some shady figures who might know something. Each lead brought him closer to uncovering the truth about the bastard's dirty business, but it also exposed him to greater danger.
Though his isolation weighed heavily on him, Wooyoung knew it was necessary. He missed San terribly and longed to hear his voice each night, but he couldn't risk it. Wooyoung needed to stay focused and vigilant to uncover the full extent of the bastard's operations.
As the weeks went by, his hard work began to pay off. Slowly, he started to piece together the puzzle—connecting seemingly unrelated events and uncovering hidden motives. But as he got closer to the truth, he realized the danger was closing in on him.
Wooyoung needed concrete evidence—something that would expose the killer, whether it was a decade-old piece of information or something as recent as today. He needed something that would strip away everything he had, ruin his dreams, and shatter his life.
One evening, as he glanced at a picture of his parents, memories flooded back. His father's warm smile, his mother's gentle touch—both now etched into his mind. They had been taken from him too soon, and he couldn't rest until he found the person responsible.
But Wooyoung knew he couldn't do this recklessly. There was someone he cared deeply for—San, his love, the one who had stood by him all these years even if Wooyoung had pushed him away. Their love had flourished, but with the looming danger, Wooyoung knew he had to protect San at all costs.
At night, Wooyoung would sit by the fire, watching the flames dance as thoughts of his parents and San filled his mind. He had to be careful. The truth he sought could cost him his life.
As his investigation continued, doubts began to creep in. Was he on the right path? Was it worth the risk? But he couldn't give up now—not when he was so close. He owed it to his parents to see this through to the end.
With unwavering determination, Wooyoung vowed to catch the killer responsible for his parents' deaths. He couldn't return to his old life until justice was served. But deep down, he hoped that one day, when it was all over, he could come back to San's loving arms and rebuild the life they once had.
