Christmas

Christmas day

"Merry Christmas!" I whispered to myself upon awakening. I am going to tell step mom today. Dad should b'e home. Grabbing my phone, I thought about how I should tell my step mother. My fingers slid across the railings as I walked down the steps. I looked out the window and saw the snow. A white Christmas. Dad's favorite! I should go back up stairs and show him. "Dad! It's a white Christmas. Are you..." I skipped into his room just, only to see an angry woman instead of his sweet face.

"Your father told me everything about you, fag." She barked at me.

"Where's dad?" My heart was breaking at an agonizing rate.

"Work," step mother spat.

"When will he get home?"

"I don't fucking know! Did you open your presents yet?" her voice was slurred and her breath smelt of alcohol.

"Um, have you been drinking?" I whimpered and I instantly regretted saying anything. "I'm sorry. I haven't opened any presents. We should wait for dad to get home, right?" I slowly started to back away as she approached me.

"It's none of your business, queer!" step mother hissed as she came toward me quickly. Concluding that this is the time that I won't be afraid, I stood still with my hands in fists. I won't let her intimidate me. My foot landed on the first stair.

"It is Christmas and you will not call me any slurs!" I yelled at her, standing my ground. What the fuck am I doing? Getting myself killed is what I am working toward, I thought answering my own question.

"You will not talk to me like that!" step mom growled. She threw her hand up and struck my face. I forced my tears deep inside.

"What, did you run out of slurs? I will not let you make me feel inferior any longer. I am who I am and you can't change me!" I screamed, trying to show no weakness. Closing my eyes, I awaited the next blow.

"I hate you," she pushed me down the stairs and as I was falling, I started to believe her. Yeah, I hate me too. Thanks for the clarification, bitch. Flailing my arms around, I tried to grab the railing to stop myself before I crashed to the ground. My hands could feel the railing, but they just barely missed it. Each hand was clenched into a fist after failing to clasp onto the railing. Tumbling and rolling down the stairs. I landed on the last stair and hit the ground so hard, I bounced up only to collapse again onto the cold, hard floor.

Getting up, I ran to the front door and grabbed my keys. I ran outside in my sweat pants and cami to the car. Crying endless tears, I drove to Krys' house. I sent Krys a text telling him I was there. He opened the door and welcomed me in. The crisp air nipped at all my exposed skin. Feeling extremely embarrassed to have Krys' family see me like this, I quickly scurried inside under the arm of Krys. I was still so flustered that I was breathing out of my mouth. A steamy cloud came out as I exhaled.

"Come sit, sit." A middle aged woman said grabbing my shoulder and patting the couch. The couch was covered with presents and festive Christmas blankets.

"Thank you for all your kindness, Mrs. and Mrs. Kently. I don't think I have met you, I am Jamie Belotti." I reached out my hand to a little girl, around ten. Her brown pig tails and little red dress tickled my heart.

"I am Zyina Stacy, Krystal's little sister," Zyina was cute without even trying.

"It is not bother, my dear." Talla Kently said. Talla was Krys' aunt whom is married to Linda Kently. They adopted Zyina and Krys after their mother (Linda's sister) lost custody. Talla ia white and Linda lack, which reminded me of Krys and I.

"Why doesn't Krys give you some clothes to change into and then, if you feel comfortable you can tell us what happened?" Linda swatted Krys and I toward his room.

Krys and I walked into his room. I put on slacks (that I had to roll up because Krys is a few inches taller than me) and I red and green plaid shirt. The shirt smelled like him, my favorite smell. It was musky and had mint tones to the aroma.

Walking behind Krys, I saw a present with my name on it. I gasped, "for me? You didn't have to get me anything! Thank you so much!" after a pause I sat down and told the family what happened.
