After school, and my daily stop at the library, I went back home just really wanting some peace and quiet.

But of course that's not what I got.

When I opened the front door, I immediately noticed something was different.

The lights were almost all on and I could hear the voice of the woman from the news on the TV in the living room.

It all could only mean one thing.

My parents were back.

Just as I tried to come up with good excuses not to stay here with them, Lucy, my mom, showed up.

''Oh my Gosh, honey!'' She came running to me.

It seemed like she was about to cry, but it was so exaggerated you couldn't not notice she was faking it.

She came towards me with her arms open, with the intention of hugging me, but in the end I ended up remaining completely still while she tried to hug me.

A couple minutes later, when she probably realized the situation was too awkward, she leaned back, that same fake expression on her face. ''Look at you! You're all grown up already!''

I groaned something in response, really wanting to just go to my room, lock the door and stay in there until they went away again.

I was not in the mood to deal with those two.

Lucy pulled me inside the house, closed the door, then practically dragged me to the kitchen, where Andrew, my dad, was cooking dinner.

''Andrew, look who's here!'' Lucy called with that irritating, overly excited voice.

He turned around and flashed us one of his famous bright smiles. ''Emma, honey! How have you been?''

I wanted to scream.

''I've been fine.''

''Good! Okay, well, dinner's almost ready so-''

''I'm not hungry, thanks.'' I said, trying to silently sneak upstairs.

Before I could even get to the stairs though, Lucy called me, stopping me. ''We'll have a couple special guests tomorrow for dinner so please make sure you're ready when they arrive.''

I nodded and then practically ran upstairs.

You may think I'm a bitchy brat for treating them like that but you have no idea what was like growing up having those two as parents.

First of all, they were never here. Second of all, they are so falsely happy all the time and it honestly makes me sick. Third of all, they think they can show up once in a while, give me some expensive present and it'd all be okay. Fourth of all, they had never showed me any type of real affection before. Fifth of all, I had learned over the years that it was much easier to not have them around.

I blame them for my poor social skills.

I tried to read but I couldn't really focus since there were too many thoughts swirling around inside my mind.

These were the worst kind of nights. When you wanted to do something to distract yourself but nothing seemed to do the trick. When questions and thoughts inside your head almost made you feel dizzy.

Something was pretty clear to me in all this- Lucy and Andrew had only come home now because of this meeting tomorrow.

I knew that this meeting was probably pretty important, otherwise they would have simply sent one of their employees on their place.

I sighed, feeling extremely bored just as my phone vibrated next to me.

I took it on my hand and read the new message.

Ashton; You should watch a movie called Forrest Gump. I think you'll like it.

Emma; Why do you think that?

Ashton; Just watch it okay?

Emma; okay.

Ashton; Em, are you making a TFIOS reference in purpose?

I shook my head to myself, a smile appearing on my face.

Ashton; I will take the absence of an answer as a yes

My smile got bigger. How could someone be so dorky and pull it off so well at the same time? I knew that definitely didn't work for me.

I grabbed my laptop, logged onto Netflix, searched for the Forrest Gump movie and started watching it.

Halfway trough the movie I was already utterly and madly in love.

I simply adored how they connected so many historical events and laced them all together with a captivating story of a new type of hero. Yes, I do think a character like Forrest should be considered a hero. And one of the best things is that Forrest wasn't just a good-looking guy who fell in love with the perfect girl and they lived happily ever after. Forrest's character is so much more than that.

Anyways.

I was just blown away.

I grabbed my phone again and sent a text to Ashton.

Emma; ITS AMAZING

Ashton; Do you trust me enough now to let me guide you trough the big sea of movies and music that you are currently oblivious to yet?

Emma; If I say yes, will you let me guide you trough the big sea of books that you are currently oblivious to yet?

Ashton; You've just got yourself a deal, Emma Bourne.
