Warnings: Episode 8 (including Viktor carving those runes), description of injuries

It was late evening by the time you were able to set everything up. Viktor had drawn the runes he needed to carve into himself, gotten the vial ready for injection, and placed the ominous Hexcore on the desk in front of him. You stepped back, still wary of the Hexcore's pull.

"I think I should do this alone," Viktor said, keeping his eyes trained on the Hexcore.

You halted your movement, "What?"

Viktor sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose, "I don't want you to see me like that."

Taking a deep breath and keeping your eyes fixed on Viktor, doing your best to ignore the whispering in your ear, you stepped forward to where he sat. You placed your arm on his shoulder, drawing his eyes to you, "I've already seen what's going to happen, and no one should have to do that alone. If something bad happens to you I want to be here to make sure you'll be okay."

"I'm going to have to be practically naked," Viktor grinned, a hint of humour in his eyes.

You blushed, ducking your head and removing your hand, "I've already seen that too."

Viktor chuckled, "We still don't know how the Hexcore affects you, it could be dangerous."

You shrugged, "When are things not dangerous lately?"

Viktor sighed, if he was honest with himself he didn't want you to go, but he also didn't want you to get hurt.

"If I feel like I can't control myself I'll leave," You compromise, "And I'll keep my eyes closed, no peeking, I pinky promise."

Viktor eyed your outstretched pinky, unsure of how to react, "Does this 'pinky promise' do anything special?"

You barked a laugh, you hadn't considered that Runeterra wouldn't have pinky promises, "No, it's just a way to show you're extra serious, kind of like a promise handshake."

"There's no changing your mind is there?" Viktor asked with resignation. He had known you long enough to know how stubborn you could be.

You shook your head, "Nope."

"Then we should start," Viktor stood up, grabbing at the hem of his shirt before looking at you with an eyebrow raised.

You blushed and turned around, closing your eyes, "Right, sorry."

You heard the sounds of fabric being removed and tossed to the side and then a quiet ting of metal scraping against the desk as Viktor picked up the blade.

"I had an idea." You said before he could start carving the runes.

"Please, enlighten me." Viktor drawled.

"I think I may be able to help with the pain." You remembered the horrific screams Viktor had made during your vision, it wasn't anything you wanted to hear again. If you could help this process go smoothly then why would you not at least give it a try?

"Mila -" Viktor started to protest.

"Wait," You interrupted, "I know what you're going to say, and I don't think I should be in contact for when you touch the Hexcore, but I think I should be able to lessen the pain even if I'm at a bit of a distance. I can at least help while you draw the runes."

Viktor was silent for a moment as he considered your words, "The minute you feel the pull is too strong you leave."

"I will." As much as you hated it, you'd only be putting the both of you in more danger if you touched the Hexcore.

"I hope I don't regret this," Viktor muttered.
