Halloween. Halloween was a night where you could be anything you wanted. A scary ghost, a pretty Princess, a wicked witch. Anything.

My favorite costume growing up had to be when I was nine. I was an astronaut. The boys in my class made fun of me saying that girls couldn't be astronauts. I didn't care. I wasn't gonna let some snotty little boys take away my fun. Women can be anything that men can be. If men had to go through some of things woman had to go through they wouldn't survive. I mean, we literally have the strength and ability to give birth to human beings. Don't tell me I can't be a damn astronaut.

"Happy Halloween." Nancy said meeting me at my locker. We had become quite comfortable around one another the last few days, Jonathan too.

"Hey." I said closing my locker door to walk with her.

"So, you're coming to the party, right?" She asked.

"I don't know." I told her.

"Come on, we talked about this. Me, you, and Jonathan. And Steve." She said. Steve was Nancys boyfriend. I have yet to really talk to the guy other than when Nancy introduced us. He's just, Nancys boyfriend.

"Hey, what are we talking about?" Jonathan asked as he joined us on my other side.

"We were just talking about how much fun we're gonna have at the party tonight, right Y/n?" She asked.

"Honestly, I was just gonna stay home and do homework. I still have so much to catch up on from missing the beginning of the semester." I said.

"Hey, I can come over and help you with that homework." Jonathan offered.

"No, no, no." Nancy said. "We're going to the party. I don't want my new friend and my best friend spending Halloween night at home doing homework. You're both coming."

"Fine. But if I go you have to help me get ready. I've never been to a Halloween party before. I don't know what to where or how to act-" I started stammering.

"Hey, hey. I got you, okay? What if I come over to your place after school and see what we've got to work with." She said. I thought about it for a second before realizing I really didn't want her in my house. I don't want her to experience my dad and my brothers true colors.

"Do you think we could go shopping after school? I kind of got rid of a lot of my clothes before we moved." I told her.

"Yeah, I'm sure Steve can drive us. I'll ask him and get back to you at lunch." She said. After my first day, Jonathan had invited me to eat with him and Nancy for lunch the next day. And now that's where I go.

"Okay." I gave her a small smile.

"Okay, I'll see you guys at lunch. Jonathan, you're going to that party." She said eying him.

"Whatever you say, Nance." He said.

"So, why don't you want to go to this party?" I asked Jonathan as we stopped at his locker.

"I don't know, I've just never really been a party kind of guy. I'm kind of a loner." He said.

"What? No way." I teased him.

"What about you? Why don't you wanna go?" He asked.

"It's like I said, I've got so much work to catch up on." I said.

"No, what's the real reason?" He asked closing his locker.

"Believe it or not, Byers, you're not the only loner in Hawkins. Hence why when we first met I was listening to my Walkman alone in the back parking lot while everyone else was in the cafeteria making plans for this super awesome party they can't wait for." I explained.
