He was up like he had been sitting on a cockroach the second Brett walked in.
"Hey!" he said breathlessly, but he could see it already. Brett was smiling, his eyes were open, happy.
"Hey."
"How did it go?"
"A lot better than last year." Brett said in his deadpan tone. "We'll see what happens. Let's get to the cafeteria, yeah? Everyone's there, I think. How did it go with you guys?"

He followed the others to the cafeteria, but to be honest, he was bummed. Yeah, of course he understood there were more contestants, and they needed rooms too, of course he got that they needed to wait with everyone else. But he wished he had had a moment, just a moment with Brett. Just a second to hug him, tell him he'd done well he was sure, talk to him about how it had gone for him. Give him a kiss.
He sat down on the bottom of a large flight of stairs, settled in with his violin case at his feet and tried not to look sulky.

God, Brett was so good at this, bantering, chatting happily to everyone. Before he knew it a whole group from the con had gathered around them, everyone sitting on the floor cross legged, instruments strewn everywhere. Every once in a while a new person would turn up from upstairs and share their stories. And Eddy had to admit he was starting to have fun. Even if he wasn't saying much, he was lapping up the atmosphere. So he almost startled when Brett suddenly leaned over to him and cleared his throat.
"Join me in two?"
His breath stopped as Brett grinned to the girl he had been talking to.
"Just going toilet. Save my seat."
Eddy sat frozen, to the bottom stair and counted to 120 in his head before he got up quietly and walked out of the other entrance to the cafeteria. Then he oriented himself. Where would Brett have gone? He guessed to the bathroom close to the practice rooms? Or where else? But before he could wonder too much he heard it.
"Psst."
He almost laughed out loud as he followed the sound down the hallway. He could see him now, walking through the unfamiliar halls, but he stayed ten meters behind him all the way until they got to a deserted staircase at what he guessed must be the back of the building. There Brett disappeared into a restroom, right at the end of the hall. Eddy glanced around him, but there was nobody here. He quickly took a step right and closed the door behind him.
Before he could even look around Brett was against him, his lips on his, kissing him once, twice, just softly, just sweetly.
"Bretty." he whispered as they let go for a moment and he snuggled into Brett's neck, his mouth resting on Brett's soft skin.
Oh, he could be there forever, stay there, live there.
"Hmmm."
Their lips, together, were the most natural thing in the world, just like it was always meant to be, but their surroundings added something more. Suddenly Eddy found himself transported to another bathroom, another time, sneaking around in Perth. He smiled fondly as they let go again and he stroked Brett's hair softly away from his forehead.
"So, you were tired of bantering?"
Brett grinned softly.
"Nah, but I wanted something more."
Eddy leaned into him and held him tight. Should he tell him, how sulky he had been, because he wanted exactly the same? How he hadn't even seen that Brett might feel it too?
"It's fun to sneak around again." he said. "Just like the olden days."
"Yeah. I wouldn't want to go back, though."

Eddy pressed a kiss to his lips. Going back, to a place where they weren't living together? Hiding, every time, spending every night alone?
"No, thanks." he said, with feeling. "I'm never going back."
