Trigger warning self harm⚠️

Adelaide's POV

When I woke up I was still at Caroline's house, I wrote her a note telling her that I went home and made my way to my car. I drove to my house instead of the Salvatores I didn't really want to speak to them, and I still had quite a a lot of my things left at my house. I went up to my room and decided to organise a few of my things, I didn't want to go back to the Salvatores any time soon but I knew at least one of them would try to drag my back.

I looked through my things and found a little pencil case that I've had since I was nine, although there weren't pencils inside. Looking at the pencil case I felt a sense of accomplishment for not using it for so long. I started wondering why it had happened in the first place and my mind started drifting of to the first time it had ever happened

Flashback

A nine year old Adelaide was sitting on the floor in the living room after receiving a harsh beating from her father.
"I TOLD U NOT TO SPEAK TO THE GILBERT BOY. WHY DO YOU NEVER LISTEN" Leo was her dad, around 6,2 dark curly hair, green eyes. Everyone would gosh about how similar his kids looked to him, described them as his splitting image. To everyone outside he was the perfect man, a great husband, and an even better father, but to Adelaide he was a monster

"I'm sorry" she sobbed, Leo had hit her a couple of times before but this one was worse, he was worse. He had grabbed the nearest thing to him and swung it at her, breaking on impact, he hit her with a plate causing a cut to form on the side of her forehead and a small ache in the side of her cheek

"Oh and now you crying, that's fucking great" says lowering his voice and scoffs when she keeps quiet

"You should be happy that I'm taking care of you, cause if I go away, I doubt they'll be anyone to take my place. I'm starting to relise why your mother never wanted you. Even as a baby you still managed to dissappoint." Leo walks away from her and comes back it a dust pan and broom, he throws it at her without saying a word. And to be honest he didn't need to, they both knew what it meant so Adelaide got to cleaning

"Elijah'll be here in a hour, find away to cover that mark"

After she was done she went upstairs to the bathroom and looked in the mirror, she tried to wipe the cut as delicately as she could more tears dropping from the sting. She had already had a few bruises from before, it had already hurt to move as much as she did and now the cut had added to the pain. Looking in the mirror made her feel an immense amount of disappointment. According to her relatives she was supposed to be the strongest. She was supposed to be able to rule one day. How could she look after a country if she cries over the most minuscule things?

Adults had told her how adorable she looked and how she would grow up to be beautiful, but she didn't see it. All she saw was a miserable disgrace unfit to be apart of the royal family let alone hold a title. She cried on the bathroom floor desperately looking around trying to find something anything to make her feel better.

Eventually she found a small razor. It wasn't the best thing to do but she didn't care, she needed a distraction, something to occupy her mind. And she had found it. She went down to the basement and took the razor with her. The basement was her room, or at least part of it. She wasn't allowed to go to certain areas in the basement. Truth be told she wasn't allowed to go anywhere at all, she was barley even allowed upstairs and if she was hungry she would wait until Leo gave her whatever scapes he saw fit.

Adelaide was out spoken and brave outside but as soon as she got home that bravery disappeared, Leo made sure of it. He had called her every name in the book, so much so that whenever someone outside would call her a slut because of her body, she wouldn't even care. She was immune to their words, but not Leo's. Leo wasn't responsible he'd go out early and come back late but he will still find time to hurt her, he did it so much that sometimes she wished that when he hit her to the ground she wouldn't get back up, but unfortunately for her that wasn't the case.
