twenty nine.

TWENTY NINE

MI-JIN AND Ha-Ri soon returned, with no sayings of a way out. Soo-Jin had tied a piece of fabric over Nam-Ra's red eye so nobody could see it. "It drops into the basement on that side, and there are exposed steel bars." Mi-Jin explained. "No way we can jump."

"That side faces the school. :9 there's no point trying it." Ha-Ri informed them with a sigh. "The ground is filled with zombies, we'll die if we go down." Mi-Jin added. "There's a door on the first floor and that leads to the mountain. We have to go that way." Ha-Ri nodded.

"But it's full of zombies in there." Dae-Su spoke up. "Can't we reach the roof if we use that and the windows?" Cheong-San asked, pointing above them. "If someone goes to the roof and screams, the zombies will follow them. Then I'm pretty sure it'll be empty out in there. -'d the rest can escape."

"I think it can work." Su-Hyeok agreed. "No." On-Jo shook her head. "If that's the only way—-"

"I said no." She firmly cut the boy off. "Please stop sacrificing yourselves." She sadly said. "Yeah, I agree with you. We said we'd all survive together." Hyo-Ryeong sighed.

"Me too." Wu-Jin agreed. "I feel the same. I'm with you guys too."

Mi-Jin let out a long sigh, "Then we should just wait for now." Ha-Ri glanced over at her. "And then what?" She questioned. "Do you have a plan?"

"Maybe if it rains again, they won't be able to get us."

"Who knows when it's gonna rain?" Soo-Jin stated, making Mi-Jin look over at her and sigh. "Don't worry. My knees are throbbing. It's gonna rain soon." She answered as she moved to sit on the ground and dust her knees off. "You'll see."

"It's way too clear." Dae-Su announced, looking up at the sky.

"Hear that?" Nam-Ra panted, looking at the window. "What?" Soo-Jin asked her, and the girl turned to face her. "They're saying to take cover." She answered. "Who is?"

"We need to take cover. There will be explosions." Nam-Ra informed the group. "What do you mean explosions?" Hyo-Ryeong asked in panic.

"Are you sure about that?" Su-Hyeok questioned, Nam-Ra who turned to look in her lap. "Hyosan Intersection, Future Collage... and also our school will be blown up." She repeated what she was hearing, her eyes enlarging at the name of their school.

"Hey, are those fucking soldiers gonna shoot missiles at us?"

"When is it gonna happen?"

"I can't really tell. They're just saying to evacuate right now." Nam-Ra answered Dae-Su's question. "Shit," Soo-Jin huffed. "Where do they expect us to go, huh?"

"When are they gonna bomb this whole place, huh?"

"Won't we all die if we just stay here?"

"Do they say where to flee to?"

"They say that we should hide underground."

"What if they drop a nuclear bomb?"

"Korea doesn't have nukes. What are you saying?"

"They're gonna blow up our school..."

"Where are we supposed to take cover? There's nowhere to hide."

"Lee Cheong-San!" A sudden yell caused everyone's stomachs to turn in horror. Cheong-San stood up with the metal bat in his hand, dead to defend himself. "It's Gwi-Nam."

"That asshole never dies." Dae-Su worriedly said. Soo-Jin swallowed the lump in her throat as her face drained its colour and her hands began to tremble.

"Maybe we heard wrong?" Hyo-Ryeong suggested. "It's quiet now." Cheong-San, who was standing at the end with On-Jo moved to the front by the window with Su-Hyeok, as everyone moved away.

The next minute, the plastic cover was ripped away and there, revealed Yoon Gwi-Nam, with a devilish grin on his face.  "Here you are."

Cheong-San leaped forward, and went to his Gwi-Nam across the head with the bat, but the hambie pulled back, causing Cheong-San to miss, and he pulled into the wall, making his bat fall from his grasp.

Gwi-Nam climbed out onto the ledge and put his foot harshly on Cheong-San's chest. Su-Hyeok went to punch him, but Gwi-Nam got in there first, and punched him in the face, making him drop to the ground and roll off of the edge —- him dangling from it with his fingers.

Soo-Jin's eyes widened and she quickly stepped forward and held onto Su-Hyeok's hands so he wouldn't fall. With the help from her sister, they were able to pull the boy up.

"Cheong-San!"

The Lee boy was brought up from the ground and Cheong-San and Gwi-Nam pulled on each other's collars, before Gwi-Nam held him over the edge.

Cheong-San hit Gwi-Nam across the face, and when he went to do it the second time, the Yoon boy grabbed onto his arm and began to twist it, before sinking his teeth into it —- Cheong-San letting out a yell.

Once Gwi-Nam was done, he pushed the boy to the wall and grabbed onto his hair. Nam-Ra let out a whimper as she covered her ears and Gwi-Nam slowly began to fall to the floor.

Cheong-San took this moment to shove the boy off of the ledge, and down to the ground floor.

"It's okay." On-Jo reassured him as Cheong-San took a step back, away from them. "It's not what you think. It's okay. Do you hear me? Don't do it. You're going to be fine."

"On-Jo," The boy began. "No one's dying. Not here. Not today." On-Jo shook her head. "Just don't say anything. Let's talk tomorrow, okay? Hm?"

Tears formed in Soo-Jin's eyes as she watched as the boy ripped off his name tag and hand it to On-Jo. "You hold onto it for me... and I'll hold onto this." Cheong-San leaned down and planted a soft kiss onto On-Jo's lips.

Soo-Jin bit down as hard as she could onto her lip to stop any tears from falling, but that didn't seem to work. Teardrops fell from her eyes as she watched the two lovers say their goodbyes, and all she hoped for, was that she'd never have to do that.

Once the two pulled away, Cheong-San sent On-Jo a sad smile and turned away and began to walk towards the window, but he turned again and pulled her in for a hug as they cried.

"Su-Hyeok, go to the first floor." Cheong-San ordered after pulling away and gently pushing On-Jo back towards the group. Su-Hyeok nodded, as his best friend jumped through the window and away from them.

"Hey!" They heard him yell. "All of you! Come after me! Today I am... The happiest guy in this school!"

And that was the last they'd ever heard of Lee Cheong-San.
