The Bad Batch: Gargoyles

Chapter Eight - The Calm Before The Storm

After learning that Omega had been taken hostage by Demona, the Bad Batch joined forces with the Gargoyles of the Manhattan Clan. The Gargoyles along with Elisa met up with the Bad Batch outside the Havoc Marauder.

Goliath: What is your plan, Sgt?

Hunter: I'll play her game.

Goliath: She will not keep her word. She will kill you as soon you give her the sword.

Hunter: Who said I was going to give her the sword? Tech, is it ready?

As Hunter said this, Tech hands Hunter what appeared to be a near perfect replica of the Sword Of Beowulf. Hunter hands it to Hudson who inspects the sword.

Hudson: The weight of this is a near perfect match.

Elisa: You built a counterfeit sword in less than a day?

Tech: A rather crude one at that. Appearance and weight wise, you wouldn't tell the difference.

Broadway: You think it'll fool Demona?

Tech: I know it will. The only way to detect that it's a fake would be to put it through an advanced scanner. And based on the technology I've seen here, that shouldn't appear to be a problem.

Brooklyn: So you hand Demona the fake sword and then what?

Hunter: Goliath, how well do you and your clansmen know Black Rock Point?

Goliath: We've been there many times.

Hunter: Good. I don't know how long it will take until it goes south. That's why I'm going to have my men engage Demona while you and your clan find Omega.

As Hunter said this, it was clear to Goliath that Hunter was putting his trust in Goliath and the rest of the Gargoyles despite their rocky start. He also knew how precious Omega was to Hunter.

Hunter: I know we didn't get off to a great start, but I'm putting my trust in you. My instincts tell me you can be trusted. The only real question I'm asking is that if I put my trust in you, am I making a mistake?

As Hunter posed this question on to Goliath, the Gargoyle leader took a moment to reflect on his answer. While he didn't trust Hunter and the Bad Batch at first, he had grown to respect them as honorable warriors.

Goliath: Your trust in myself and my clan shall not be squandered. You have my word that Omega will be saved from Demona's clutches.

As Goliath says this, he extends his hand to Hunter. Hunter accepted Goliath's gesture and shook his hand. With that, the Bad Batch and the Manhattan Clan joined forces in their mission to rescue Omega from Demona. To save time, Elisa went with the Bad Batch on the Havoc Marauder. As the Gargoyles took flight, Goliath spoke with his fellow Gargoyles.

Brooklyn: So what's the plan, Goliath?

Goliath: We will aid the Bad Batch in their mission to rescue Omega. We will follow Hunter's lead. While they engage Demona, we will find Omega. 

Hudson: And what of the Sword of Beowulf? What will become of the Sword once Demona has been defeated? 

Goliath: We will deal with that when the time comes. But for now, our primary concern is rescuing Omega. I gave Hunter my word that we would rescue her. I intend to honor my promise. 

Lexington: With the kind of firepower those guys have, they'll certainly give Demona a run for her money!

Goliath: Focus. We must be ready to do our part. 

Meanwhile inside the Havoc Marauder, Elisa took a moment to process the fact that she was on a space craft.

Elisa: Never thought I'd find myself on a spaceship. You got a plan, Hunter?

Hunter: I'll play along with Demona's game. When she attacks, the rest of the 99 and I will attack Demona. Once the shooting starts, you'll regroup with the Manhattan Clan and find Omega. We'll buy you as much time as you need.

Elisa: I hope you know what you're doing, Hunter. Demona isn't someone to mess with.

Hunter: We know what we're doing. Suicide missions are our specialty.

Elisa: You really care about Omega, do you?

Hunter: It's my fault that Omega was kidnapped in the first place. I'll be damned if I let anything happen to her.

Tech: Based on what Goliath said, there's a high possibility that Demona might have already killed Omega. If she really intends to kill you after you give her the sword, then keeping Omega alive would be pointless.

As Tech pointed out the possibility that Demona might have killed Omega, Hunter clenched his fists in anger. Elisa as well as the rest of the Bad Batch could see the anger seething from Hunter.

Hunter: If anything happens to Omega....if that Gargoyle hurts her, then I'm going to make her pay for it tenfold. 

As Hunter said anything, Elisa became concerned. 

Elisa: I know you're worried about Omega, but you need to keep your head in the game. Demona is no doubt going to use Omega against you. 

Echo: We won't let that happen. 

Wrecker: She never tangoed with any of us! 

Hunter: I know where my head is. We all have our parts. As long as we play our parts, we'll save Omega. 

With that, the Bad Batch and the Manhattan Clan prepared themselves in their inevitable battle against Demona. The battle ahead would not be easy. But despite the challenge that lay ahead, Hunter was ready to do everything in his power to save Omega from Demona's clutches of Demona. And with the help of his fellow Bad Batch members and his new found allies in the Gargoyles, Hunter would not fight this fight alone.
