Skye is standing at the door of Coulson's office, she looks confused and pale. When she heard May's footsteps and Coulson's odd loud sigh she immediately ran to Fitzsimmons to the lab.
"Skye- are you okay?" Simmons asked while Fitz gave her a stool
"Mom and Dad are getting a divorce." Skye burst out
Simmons frowned and Fitz just rolled his eyes and continued tinkering on his device- thinking it must have been about the cringe tv show she's currently watching- but it wasn't...
"May and Coulson are getting a divorce!!!" she clarified
"WhAt?!??!" both Fitz and Simmons said
"Okay, so..." Skye actually sat on the stool to explain her discovery
Flashback
Skye saw May walk into Coulson's office while holding an envelope, and May looked...troubled?. Naturally, her curiosity gets the best of her, she walks near the door and eavesdrops. After 5 minutes of silence, she heard May
"I can't do this anymore, just sign the paper, It's better this way" and silence again. 'Paper? What paper?' she thought and for a second she regret not always bringing the x-ray kind of glasses
"Just make sure you'll let the kids visit you," Coulson said. 'Wait what? Visit? Where? She's leaving? 'Are they- are they?
End of Flashback
"Are they even married?" Fitz asked
"Well I supposed...but that doesn't matter because they are splitting now!"
"Well we can't let that happen, can we?" Simmons said
"We have been setting them up for the last 6 months without knowing they're married and now they're getting a divorce? NO WAY" Skye replied
Meanwhile, Skye planned to sneak to Coulson's office and let the other two distract May and Coulson. 'I can't believe this, I can't believe this.' was the only thing in Skye's head as she entered the office. She saw the brown envelope lying on Coulson's desk. She was about to dispose of the paper when she decided to check it first, "Certificate of adoption... Mary Sue- ADOPTION PAPER?!?!"
The door burst open revealing Fitzsimmons, Coulson, and May "Congratulation Skye!!!"
"Wha- I-"
"It was Coulson plan, all of this" May said
"It wasn't me who suggested to adopt her though-" Coulson stopped talking when May glared at him. Fitzsimmons hugged her.
"So you're not really married?" Skye asked her new parents
"he hasn't put a ring on it" May joked
"ehehe" they all laugh at Coulson.
Unfortunately, there's still a lot to discuss whatever is between them and a lot of clarifying of feelings. But for now, them being together and no alien invasion (yet) is enough. There's no ring or label but what is certain right now is that they are a family. Skye hugged May and Coulson tighter than she ever could.
