Boom screech boom. I woke up to the sound of a crash outside my window, right next to my street. As I awakened my vision was just a messy blur at first but quickly clarified. I shuffled over to my window, pulling back my plain yellow curtains. Before I could even try and make out who's car it was, or ever so much as identify the color, I heard a piercing scream from downstairs. Mom.
I rushed down our carpet covered stairs and turned to see the door wide open. Mom wasn't there, and neither was my little sister Samantha. I was still in my pajamas, but I didn't care. I quickly made my way to the door when I accidentally slipped outside and fell face first onto the concrete of the pavement.
When I got up I wiped my face to see the color of rouge to appear on my hand. My nose hurt more than ever, and the sight of blood didn't help either. I pushed the pain back because I had to know why Mom had screamed like that, so I decided to just speed walk to get there.
Since my room's window was on the other side of the house I had to turn a corner to reach the scene of the incident. I finally got there. I walked up a bit more to see exactly what was going on, Mom was talking to at least three police officers. When I tried to get closer a large police officer with a bad tan held up a hand in front of my face and stopped me. "You can't go any farther." I spoke calmly "That's my mom over there I want to see what's going on." The officer hesitated for a second while I crossed my arms, patiently waiting for him to let me pass.
"Okay, but make it quick." I just nodded and walked right passed him, and straight up to Mom. I pulled her to the side away from all the officers and started overflowing with questions for her. "Mom, what happened? Why are all these officers surrounding you? What's going on?" She blubbered something and pointed to the black car.
Panic surged inside me. It's Dad. That's Dad's car. The car was surrounded by yellow police tape. The car was wrecked. The hood had been slammed into the nearest pole and the bumper in the back was destroyed along with the side of the car. The drivers seat side.
I turned to see an ambulance leaving and immediately wanted to follow it. But I'm only 15 and I only have a learners permit. Wait. I thought, where's Samantha? I turned a full 360 and I see her sitting on the grass all alone, holding her legs toward her face. She looked sad, I came up to her. "Hey, Sam." She spoke softly to me "Hi, Mica. What happened to your nose?" I was just about to answer when Mom called out to us and gave a signal so we would come over to her.
She'd just finished crying but her eyes were red and it was clear she was just trying to keep a straight face for us. "Go back in the house and change. We're going to the hospital to see your father."
