"What the hell was that, Mika?" Maddie asked, her eyes wide. "Isn't that Gaby Smith's boyfriend? Why were you kissing him?" I snapped out of my gaze and stared back at her. "I-I didn't kiss him," Maddie looked confused now, "What do you mean we just-" I interrupted her, finishing what I was saying. "he kissed me." Right behind Maddie was Jason, who hadn't said a word. "We'll talk about this at my house, you've got a lot of explaining to do, missy."
I sat in the backseat while Jason sat upfront and Maddie was driving. I tried calling Mom to tell her I'd be going over to Maddie's for a while, but she didn't pick up. Not surprising at all, of course. Why do I even bother?
Maddie pulled into her garage and we got out of the car. As we went inside I saw Maddie's mom, "Hi, Mrs. Donner." I greeted her, "Hello, Mika nice to see you again." She smiled at me, her brown-blonde hair twisted up in a bun, just like her daughter's.
Maddie, Jason, and I went up to Maddie's room. Jason still hadn't said anything.
As soon as we went in Maddie closed the door and sat on her bed. Maddie was an only child so she didn't have to worry about siblings stalking her conversations, but she closed it just in case her mom or dad happened to pass by.
"Ok," Maddie started, "how do you even know Gaby and her boyfriend?" I looked down and my feet and explained how we met each other on the bus, how we had the same class for first, and how it all led up to the incident they'd captured me in.
"Wow." Jason looked stunned, "Dude, you just met the girl and her boyfriend. Plus, she's really popular so if you get on her bad side now she'll start a nasty rumor about you." I rolled my eyes "Thank you so much Jason, I didn't think about any of that."
"In all seriousness, Mika, you have to break this thing off." Maddie said to me. A bunch of emotions ran through my head.
"What thing? I didn't even know we had a thing, to be honest I don't even know where that kiss came from. I'm so confused, what do I do?" I spoke as I leaned on Jason's shoulder and hugging one of Maddie's pillows.
Maddie stood up in front of me and Jason, "I'm gonna tell you what you're gonna do. You're gonna take him to the side when Gaby isn't looking, and confront him about that scene in the hallway, Mikaela Thomas."
I let go of the bedazzled pillow and stood up with a content look on my face, "You know what? You're right Maddie. I am gonna do that."
Jason chuckled, I glared at him. "What is it?" I asked him. "You. You're not gonna 'confront' anyone, you've never been able to do anything like that." He looked back at me.
Suddenly, my courage deflated, like a balloon that got all the air sucked out of it. Maddie went up to Jason and smacked him on the back of the head. "He's...right. I can't do that."
Now Jason got up. He grabbed me by the shoulders and spoke softly this time, "Hey, look at me." I peered back up and saw his face was very serious this time, "you guys didn't let me finish. You've never been able to do anything like that, but now you're going to take a huge step in your life by doing so. And I'm positive when I say you're not going to confront anyone. Instead, you're going to go up to him and demand an explanation from him about what happened, and your not going to take no for an answer. Okay?"
I stared up at him, ruffled his black emo-looking hair, and while hugging him, replied, "Okay."
