No. But, I just met her. I can't hate her just because she looks better than me. I mean, a lot of people look better than me, but I don't hate them.

All these thoughts run through my head as I try to figure out this impossible puzzle of hatred.

At about that same time, some guy had walked into the classroom and Gaby jumped out of her seat and gave him a big embrace, followed by a peck on the lips.

I hadn't noticed but apparently I'd been looking at them. The guy looked at me and smiled but then turned his attention back to his girlfriend. Since there'd been three seats, I sat on the far left, Gaby in the middle, and her boyfriend on the far right.

"I almost forgot to introduce you two." Gaby smiled as she said so. "Wait. I never got your name, what is it?" I looked surprised. How could she have told me her name, but I didn't have the decency to tell her mine? "Oh. Sorry, my name's Mikaela but you can call me Mika if you want." "I like that name." She replied as she looked back at her boyfriend then back at me again.

"Well, Mika, this is my boyfriend of one year and three months, Josh." she was looking at Josh now. "Josh, this is my friend of about thirty minutes, Mika." Josh stuck out his hand as if waiting for me to shake it. I pulled out my own hand and shook his, "Nice to meet you Mika." He was quite polite for a fifteen-year-old, I'll say that much. "Same to you." I respond with a shy smile.

The bell had finally rung, dismissing us of the horrid geometry class and sending us to our next room of torture.

It turned out that first period was the only class me and Gaby had together.

I waved goodbye to Gaby as she hugged her boyfriend.

My second period was Ms. Lin. As soon as I got in I took a seat nearest to the back, but just close enough so I could see the board.

I did this for all my classes throughout the day and sadly I didn't have Jason nor Maddie in any of my classes.

And then seventh period came.

When I walked into that class I saw all the desks were in groups of five. Five. I hope no more than one comes to sit here. Then, somebody walked in, it was Josh. I was about to say hi but I shied away last minute and hoped he didn't see me.

Hope as much as I wanted to, it didn't work. He saw me, smirked, and took the seat right next to me. It was uncomfortably close for me. I had this thing where if somebody stood or sat less than a few inches away from me it was bad, but he was literally centimeters away from me.

What made it worse was that no one else sat at the tables with us.

Our teacher walked in and gave us a big bright smile, as if he were happy it was the first day of school. "Hey, guys, I'm Mr. Bob and I'll be your English teacher for this year." I giggled at his name. Maybe just a little too loudly, because Josh overheard me and whispered, "What's so funny?" I looked over and slightly panicked, thinking I sounded like a dork. "Well, his name. Mr. Bob? I mean come on even I would laugh at that." He snickered and agreed with me.

"Since it's your first day, I'll give you guys a free day to go around to get to know each other." Mr. Bob said.

"This is our chance." Josh said excitedly. I looked at him, really confused, and replied "Our chance for what?" "Our chance to actually meet and know each other, instead of being strangers who just met through my girlfriend and your friend."

I thought about it. "Yeah. I guess we should...talk to each other." he looked at me and waved a hand in front of my face. Apparently I'd zoned out, "You're not very social, are you?" "Geez, you must be a psychic."

"Oh, sassy too, aren't we?" I couldn't help but laugh. I stopped, realizing how dumb I must've looked, and slowly looked back at him. He'd been grinning as if he'd made some big accomplishment by making me laugh.

"What are you smiling about?" I asked him with an eyebrow raised. "I like to make people laugh. It makes me feel good."

We spent the rest of the day having a casual first-meeting conversation. What our favorite colors were, our favorite sports, and types of movies we liked, and the bell rang.
For once I'd actually been sad to leave a class that didn't have my best friends in it.

When I walked out of the classroom I felt a sudden tug that dragged me into the corner in the hallway, I glanced and saw it was Josh. "Hey, what was that-"

He leaned in and suddenly I felt his soft, warm lips on mine. It was only for a few seconds, but I closed my eyes enjoying every bit of it.

When I opened my eyes, I'd seen he was gone. Disappeared. I turned around to try and process what happened, but as soon as I did I saw two figures standing, facing me.

Jason and Maddie were standing side by side, both of them stood with their mouths gaping open.
