I finished eating rather quickly and when nobody was looking I stuffed my bag with some food for the one and only Carlos.
"May I be excused?" I asked when I was completely done.
"Yes, you may." Abuela said.
"Thank you."
I got up and left the table. When I got in my room Carlos was there, sleeping. I decided to not wake him up and just leave the food on the bedside table. I did not want Mirabel to come in and see him so I left for her room. In no time she also appeared.
"Hi Y/n! You're done?"
"Yup! All ready!"
"Then let's go! I wanna show you a place."
"Alright. Lead the way."
We walked out of the house and headed for the town. After quite some walking I realized we were headed for the mountains that were keeping this place safe and hidden.
"Here we are." Mirabel said once we were in front of a rock covered with symbols.
"What is this?"
I brushed the hard surface looking closely at what the carvings were about. There were quite a few scattered all over the rock. Candles, clouds and suns, food, hourglasses, flowers, sound waves, dumbbells, and lastly, chameleons.
"Well this is amazing.""I know, right? I thought it'd be nice for you to see this too. And look! Up there is a big butterfly. "
"Pretty. How did you even find this place?"
"I've lived here my whole life. I'd like to believe I discovered everything there is between those mountains."
"Right. But don't you like...want to see the rest of the world?"
"One day, yeah, but for now I'm good with my family here. What about you? Have you seen the world?"
"Oh...nope. Not yet. I do wanna go on a long trip with my father though. When I'm a bit older."
"That's very nice. Anyways, wanna go back?"
"Sure. Thanks for bringing me here."
"No problem, amiga!"
We then again left for the busy town to spend more time together. Once we got there we weren't surprised to see the little ones running around, people talking and singing and the rest of the Madrigal family doing their chores.
"Hi Luisa!" Mirabel said when she saw her sister.
"Hey there. What are you two up to?"
"Just hanging out? What about you sis?"
"Well, I think I'm done with my work for now. Today has been a busy day."
"Why don't you come with us then?" I chimed in. Ever since I've arrived here I've only quite talked to Camilo. Mirabel and Dolores too, but not as much as I should.
"Hmm...i don't know if I can..."
"C'mon Luisa! It would be so great for you to finally relax and stop worrying about everything. Just for a bit. Please~?"
"Alright, alright. That does sound nice actually. So where were you going?"
"We didn't have a plan. Any ideas?"
"It's pretty hot out. What if we go for a swim?"
"Swim?" I asked "Where?"
"You didn't show her, Mira?"
"I totally forgot! There's this nice place with another deep lake. The water is very nice and clean. Most people go there to cool off on a day like this. Well then, let's go!"
The place wasn't that far from the actual town. It was definitely a place they had worked on to get cleaned and all that as there were gorgeous flowers and green grass around it, probably grown by Isabela.
"So it's like a pool!"
"I suppose we did end up making it look like one." Luisa said taking a closer look at the so-called lake. It was bigger than a pool so i wasn't complaining.
"What about our clothes?"
"Don't worry about them. You know how to swim, right Y/n?"
"Yup. I'm pretty sure I do."
"The water is deep so- Woah!"
Before Luisa finished her sentence she found herself pushed into the pool. And not by me nor Mirabel.
"Isabela?!"
"Hi little sis. I see you three didn't bother to invite us to hang out with you."
"What was that for?!" The middle daughter shouted surprised.
"Enjoy yourself Luisa."
~
"Hi Dolores." I said going up to the girl who was sitting in a chair with her eyes closed while the other girls were swimming.
"Hey there Y/n. Not going in the water?"
"Not yet. What about you?"
"It doesn't do me good. My ears hurt very badly after I get out."
"Oh, I'm sorry."
"It's alright. I'm happy to see that the other girls are having fun and relaxing. They all work so hard and never get a chance like this."
"So do you, Dolores. You all work so hard for this town. I'm truly impressed."
"That's very flattering. Thank you, but it really is just our duty."
"I guess so, but don't forget to rest whenever you get the chance to."
"We won't."
"I'm going to get something to drink. Want anything?"
"Oh! Some lemonade would be great!"
"I want lemonade too!" Aria said from the pool.
"Get everyone some, please."
"Sure thing Isa."
I went back into the town to find some lemonade. I wasn't in the mood to make it myself, plus I had some money on me.
"Y/n! Y/n! Y/n! Y/n! Y/n!"
"Hm? Oh. Hi Cecilia! What's up?"
"Well Camilo got us all to make a lemonade stand and I'm in charge of advertising it! I don't know what that means, but wanna buy some?!"
"This must be my lucky day. I was just looking for some."
"Wooow! Come then! It's right there!"
I went with the kid back to her little stand only to find a tired-looking Camilo there.
"6 lemonades, please."
"Sure thing. Wait. Y/n? Why do you need that many drinks?"
"Oh well I'm having fun with the girls."
"Oh my, so that's why you ditched me?"
"Dramatic much. Plus, I see you're having fun anyways."
"Totally. I've had three different girls braid my hair. And then it got extremely tangled so Ivan thought it would be a good idea to pour lemonade on my head to help. Now my hair is sticky and wet."
"That explains the look on your face."
"Please save me."
"You'll manage. If you want you can help me carry these though."
"Live saver."
"I know. I'm the best."
