Camilo ended up locking himself away for the whole day, so I made sure to bring him food along with little Antonio who slipped an apology note and candy under his brother's door.
I decided to go talk to Mirabel about everything. I needed to know if Abuela usually hit her grandchildren. That thought scared me a lot. Not because I was scared she's gonna do that to me too, but for the Madrigals. They can't live in a house where the people they are supposed to go to for help and support hit them.
I found her in her room sitting on her bed looking gloomy.
"Hey Mirabel, are you okay?"
"O-oh. Hey Y/n! Yeah, I'm fine...hehe."
"What's wrong?" I say as I sat on her bed.
"You are too smart for this...I guess you already found out about Abuelas...issue."
"Mirabel, does she always do this?"
"Only when she gets really mad. You know, she cares a lot about our reputation and the way others perceive this family. There is no room for mistakes...I guess that's why my Tio is not here with us anymore..."
"What happened to him?"
"I'm not sure. People avoid talking about him at all costs! It's like he's a villain! I'm sure he was a good person but-"
"But not good enough for your Abuela."
"Yeah...Also, don't worry too much about Camilo. He takes things like this way harsher than everybody else but he's strong. He manages to get his stuff together all by himself. I admire him for that."
"I guess he is admirable, I just wish he wouldn't push everybody away. It's concerning that not even Pepa could get him out of his room."
"You'll get used to it, trust me. That's how he is. It's the only time he shows any type of vulnerability and he absolutely hates it. He cares about you Y/n and doesn't want you to see him like that. "
"So he just puts up a facade in front of everyone to keep up the image that Abuela wants him to see."
"Your good at this."
"Heh-So how long until I can talk to him?"
"Up to a couple of days."
"Days?!"
"Yeah..."
"Alright then...thanks Mirabel. We should go outside later and talk more."
"Sure thing! See ya!"
I couldn't go for a couple of days knowing how bad Camilo is feeling. I had to do something. He ended up locking his door a couple of hours ago, so there's no way I can just enter it now.
I went into my room and stared out the window. Looking at the side I realized something. I can get into Camilo's roof by going on the roof! But should I? After all...he wants to be alone...But he needs to know that he's not alone in this.
After procrastinating the situation I decided I should at least try. He might not even open the window for me. Now the only problem is...my fear of heights.
I climbed out my window. I was sitting on the windowsill. Camilo's window is close. Just gotta keep my balance and hug the wall. It'll be fine!
I stepped onto the roof, immediately slipping. Luckily i caught myself and started slowly crawling to his window. It took a while but I somehow managed to get there alive. Great success.
The curtains were shut close so I couldn't see in his room. Reluctantly I knocked onto his window once. Nothing happened, as expected. I knocked again. Still nothing.
3rd person p.o.v:
As Y/n was sitting on the roof waiting for an answer from the boy, Camilo was trying his best to ignore the knocks, but the persistence of the girl annoyed him so much that he decided to go see what was going on. He didn't realize it was her that was making the noises, so thinking it was a bird he went to the window to shoo it away.
As he opened the window he was surprised to see his friend there with and anxious pale look on her face.
"I told you to leave me alone, didn't I? Ever heard of boundaries?"
"Im sorry. Uhh, can I please come in?"
"No, you may not. Now go back to your room."
His dad circles and red puffy eyes were very obvious. And he knew it too and that's why he tried closing his window, but before he could do so Y/n stopped him.
"Please Camilo, I'm trying to help you! I don't expect you to be perfect! You are my friend! I want to help you! I wanna be there for you when you feel bad..."
He stopped in his tracks and stared blankly at the floor. Tears filled his eyes as he turned back and opened the window for the girl to enter his room. She quickly jumped inside and pulled him into a tight hug. Camilo didn't hesitate to reciprocate the gesture and weakly cried into the girl's shoulder.
"It's gonna be okay, I promise you. I'm really really sorry for getting you in trouble..." she says while stroking his head with one hand.
"N-no it's fine! It was my idea and I knew this would happen. I'm so-sorry."
"Don't apologize...please."
Y/n then broke the hug and started stroking his face, wiping away the streaming tears as she cupped his face at the same time.
"Come on, why don't you get some sleep and we'll talk more when you wake up."
"Okay but, can you...uhh...stay here with me-?"
"O-oh."
"You don't have to if you don't want to or-"
"No don't worry about it. I'll stay with you and I'll be here when you wake up."
One very noticeable detail was the color of the room. There were no more bright lights and colors. It was dark and sad, just like Camilo...
The girl tucked him into bed and stroked his head as he fell asleep. Given the dark lighting and the quietness, Y/n ended up giving into the realm of sleep as well right next to the boy, but not before unlocking the door and shutting the window.
The two were cuddled next to each other as they peacefully slept. And that's how they remained for a couple of hours, until a certain person disturbed their peace.
